Workouts - Spilt Laps and Extended Runs

Hello Garmin Community,

I use the 'Workouts' rather than just starting the run timer on my Forerunner 220. For this reason I like to mix up my intensities like to run in different zones for different times. Whilst running using a 'Workout', it does not automatically record the spilt laps every mile as I have set on the Auto Lap setting.

I have worked around this by setting my 'Workout' to be 1 mile long, repeated X amount of times. This then records the spilt lap times at every mile.

Is this the only way to achieve spilt lap times using a 'Workout'?

This poses as another problem. If I set the 'Workout' to be repeated 5 times. Equalling a 5 mile run. But I actually run slightly longer say 6 or 6.5 miles. The 'Workout' stops recording any data beyond 5 miles, or the 5th repeat.

Is there a way to make the watch continue collecting data beyond the 'Workout' settings if I decided to take the scenic route?

Kind regards,
Kevin
  • Yes, this is the only way. On my 910XT, after the workout finishes, just press the Start/Stop key and it will keep recording. The workout is over and you are in normal running mode, so your Auto Lap settings would be in effect. You can also start a new workout if that is what you want to do.

  • Thanks Travis for your response.

What I am planning to do on my next run is to set my workout to 1 mile, repeated X amount of times. But then I set another step in the same workout to run until I have pressed the lap split button. Hopefully this will allow me to continue running beyond my workout and still collect data without any interruptions.

It's a shame that these features are not already implemented in this watch. To have an option to extend your run after a workout would be useful. As to have split laps times in a workout as per your preferred time or distance.

It would be a nice feature also have the ability to crop your workout data on Garmin Connect to either trim off excess data for those who prefer not to run beyond their desired time or disance, or to clean up any interruptions in your run.

    Kind regards,
    Kevin
