Export to google earth not working?

Former Member

I uploaded some tracks from my forerunner 10 over the weekend and now I cannot seem to get them to export to kml. I just get an error saying that the website is not found in chrome.

Attempting to download tracks from before this weekend worked just fine.
  • I am having the same issue and many people have voiced the same on this thread. How does this go from a forum post to a bug that garmin will address and keep us abreast of status?
  • Also the same issue here. last working for me was march 8th - 14 march is not working??
Kind of bugs me cause I was using this to map all my rides in earth. Maybe I should go premium on Strava and leave connect.

I got same problem a few weeks ago. KML file in GoogleEarth shows only start, end, Lap1 and Lap2, but the points are on one place. I can export my data to TCX or GPX files. But it is not so comfortable because double click on KML file opens GoogleEarth automatically. TCX and GPX files do not open GoogleEarth. Is there any solution how to get right KML file?

You can officially report it to Garmin support, exchange many emails to help them understand the problem, receive an acknowledgement that the bug is real, and still wait for months with no status updates or a bugfix. I began seeing these problems last December and documented it in this thread. Seems like the kind of thing a software college intern could work on, yet Garmin appears to be uninterested in supporting its products.

    Workaround! (Not a solution)
I just got myself an Edge 510 with the purpose of recording files and work with them in Google Maps. So the issue described in this thread was a complete showstopper!
But I tried a different workaround, that gave me a usable result.

Here is what you can do:
In the Garmin Connect, export the recording to .GPX
    Open this page: http://gpx2kml.com/
And convert the .gpx file to a .kml file.
download the new .kml file and import it into Google Maps - and there you have it.

But yet this is a workaround and not a solution.
I have also today mailed to Garmin Support about the issue with the .kml file from Garmin Connect and referred to this thread.

    Awesome google earth issue workaround

Thanks, Jesper.Bech - that finally helped - I thought I was having issues with GE, indeed it is an issue with the KML export from Garmin Connect into GE.
  • Been occurring since March 10th.
I posted a similar workaround, along with Garmin's response.
  • Google Earth export is working correctly now.
