uploading file in .tcx or .gpx format

I was tyring to export my activities from the Garming Training Center software and upload them to Garmin Connect but haven't been able to sucessfully do so. I've tried exporting both as .gpx files and as .tcx files and then upload to Connect via the manual import part of the Garmin connect interface. However, I get "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again" everytime I try. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Do i have to upload only one activity at a time? (I tried this also, but couldn't get it to work.)
  • still no word for garmin?

really disapointing. Is this their forum, do they know this exist? :)

Ok - so nothing from Garmin what a shame - in trying to find the solution I have now found the time to look at the strava website in more detail. Much better overall and although it wont upload direct from the device it does take the GPX file easily enough. I really like the leaderboard on various segments of the route. Made me beat my PB on the ride home by 10%!!

Goodbye Garmin Connect. You seem to be taking the stance that you have a monopoly on the devices and that they have to use Garmin Connect to upload and therefore as per earlier posts in this thread want them to buy (an additional) sports oriented devices if they want to use Garmin Connect. Thankfully it seems there are better websites out there that are compatible with the GPX format as it is.

    TRAVIS.VITEK found a door.

It's rough, not integrated, only usable in manually mode.... but it works.

    http://home.comcast.net/~travis.vitek/upload.html

Note: After clicking "Submit" then click your Garmin Connect tab then switch from Dashboard to Analyze or vise/versa to bring in your GPX file.

I tried every conversion and fix that I know of and I could not get a single GPX file from Benmoffat or Fedorico to load directly into Connect.
Also....I have 2 accounts and tried unsuccessfully to load several GPX files into account "A" that has previously been loaded into account "B" and were still there and functioning.

Garmin Training Center loaded both GPX files from Benmoffat and Federico with no problem so the files are just fine.

Garmin Connect is definitely broken regarding the loading of new GPX files.

Thaks YOURIZOLI for first post about trivis.vitek trick and DATEZZ for his help

about garmin .... i have no words

Cannot upload gpx file from 450, which has worked a hundred times in the past. Had someone else try to upload it to their account and that failed. Was able to upload the gpx file to Strava.

First export to tcx started failing, no import of gpx fails.

Pretty interesting to see no response from Garmin. I would have expected a lot more from them.

    shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Vergogna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Milioni di dispositivi Garmin in tutto il mondo, ed una piattaforma che sono mesi che non funziona a dovere.
  • Yuri - you're a star!!! Works a treat!!

But surely if a forum member can find a fix Garmin can - or more to the point at least have the decency to tell us there's a problem and they're working on it!!!!

Now I've tried Strava - seriously considering moving over - it does so much more with my data - so far connect has failed to recognise split times from my GPX file - Strava does this beautifully! - as a mountain runner I want the best of both worlds on a budget, reliable GPS and split time data!!!
  • Please give this a try again. The Garmin Connect team released a patch that fixed an issue with uploading certain files to Garmin Connect.

Re "Please give this a try again" - I did try again and was able to upload a gpx file that had previously failed to upload - this was a gpx file exported from Basecamp then modified as suggested at the start of this thread. A gpx file exported from Basecamp without the fixes still does not upload to Connect - the upload still fails with the dreaded "An error occurred with your upload" error. It will be interesting to see if all people who reported running into the upload problem are successful now.

My conclusion: it looks like Garmin just fixed the bug they introduced a week or two ago, but their credibility has taken a deep dive and customer support is abysmal. I still do not understand how they can get the processing of an XML file (which is what a gpx is) so badly wrong that their own products are incompatible.
  • Although I agree that Garmin support could be better and I do like features of Strava - I have been using them side by side for over a year and find that Strava's processing of the Garmin data is less accurate (or maybe less clever) than the way connect handles it. If you are concerned about accuracy levels I would bear with Garmin and try and use connect
