uploading file in .tcx or .gpx format

I was tyring to export my activities from the Garming Training Center software and upload them to Garmin Connect but haven't been able to sucessfully do so. I've tried exporting both as .gpx files and as .tcx files and then upload to Connect via the manual import part of the Garmin connect interface. However, I get "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again" everytime I try. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Do i have to upload only one activity at a time? (I tried this also, but couldn't get it to work.)
  • Dakota 20 here, nothing works, problem goes back more than 6 months according to people in Australia... they had to change the time zone on garmin connect settings to fix it ? WTF garmin !!! thank god polar is starting with the V650, lets see how that works !

+1 I can't upload .gpx either direct from device or from a saved file on desktop. Also agree with earlier poster, whilst the units are good the web interface is truly awful (which is a pity as it is all part of the package and I'm UNLIKELY TO BUY A GARMIN IN THE FUTURE because of it). To be honest I'd rather pay a small amount to subscribe to a decent reliable, supported service (you know, similar to Flickr or Linked in Professional). Hope you can hear me, Garmin folks!
  • i agree with the above....the software is light years away.....I believe that it is a very simple thing to fix so the uploads will be easy to do!!!!please support the hardware you sell|!!!!!!!

This is a big shame that Garmin are unwilling to fix this issue. I read that Garmin responded to a query saying that Connect is not really designed for handheld GPS devices and we'd be better using Basecamp. Well, Basecamp is good for when I wish to check my routes on maps, etc, but for looking at my daily stats I like Connect. I use my Garmin Forerunner GPS watch to record my running activities and upload all that data to Connect, so I'd like to have my walking and cycling data (recorded on Oregon 450) here too.

As said above, the Garmin devices are expensive and themselves are good tools, but they I feel I'm not able to use them to their full potential without the information I could previously get using Connect.
  • My suspicion is that Garmin intentionally broke the .gpx upload capability in order to keep people using handhelds for cycling and running from being able to use GC. I think they want to force us to buy an Edge or Forerunner as well as our Etrex or Dakota. As for myself, I've been using GC and Strava in parallel just in case one of these services craps out, there is still the other one. I've begun migrating some of my stuff to MapMyRide, but am still looking for a yet better alternative in case Garmin doesn't intend to fix this.
  • I converted (TopoFusion) a gpx file that wouldn't upload to tcx file and was successful.

If somewhere in the above posts this workaround was already mentioned, my apologies.
  • seems the above is working....for now!!!but the solution should come from Garmin!!!!

yes, i'm having exactly the same problems with an etrex 10. last week i uploaded several activities successfully, today when i try i just have the arrow-chasing-its-tail-in-a-circle thingy going round constantly, saying "uploading". if i try to upload the data manually i get the "an error has occurred, try again" message. basically, i'm beginning to think garmin connect is busted.
