Garmin Nuvi 2595 keeps restarting into usb mode?

Former Member

Recently my Garmin Nuvi 2595 keeps restarting in USB mode when connected to the car.

When I input directions and start driving, it goes for about a few minutes and then it restarts, and puts it into USB mode. Then sometimes it will then restart again resuming where the directions left off and then restarting again into USB mode.

Also, it seems to not recognize that the device is connected to the car? Whenever I click the traffic icon, it tells me to make sure that the power cable is connected. However, I know that power cable is connected because the battery sign shows a charging sign.

Any help would be appreciated.
  • Sounds like a faulty cable
  • I have same issue, my Garmin Nuvi 2595 keeps restarting, it is always going into boot loop when connected to windows 10 PC, tried with 3 different cables but same problem exists. It is also restarting in the car with original charger.and other chargers and CAR USB. I am unable to connect and update GPS since 6 months. I have wasted several hours to reset and fix the problem, I used three different laptop with all USB ports. I request Please suggested

  • Could be simply a faulty device, dead battery, or another hardware issue. You could try a facory reset, but if it does not help, you may need to have it repaired, which unfortunately often costs as much as a new device. You can also try speaking to Garmin Support.

  • I have the same problem.  It briefly recognizes the traffic receiver and then goes into USB mode.  A few more reboots occur to USB mode.  Then it goes to GPS mode, but does not recognize the receiver.

  •  Ditto. I see there's even a YouTube video of someone who had the same problem 10 years ago! I've had my nuvi for 6 years and it has worked perfectly until about a month ago. I've tried everything everyone has suggested, even sitting with it plugged straight into a USB charging port, ie no computer, no traffic cable.  The only way it works ok is without being plugged into power, but, of course, the battery only lasts a very short time.  As soon as a power cable is put in it starts looping. Isn't it time Garmin fixed this issue or released an explanation? After all these years there's no way Garmin will be interested in my machine.  Perhaps its some kind of built in death signal; time to spend some more money on a new one or revert to my phone?

  • Agreed! Built in Death feature, it looks like a marketing strategy, insisting the consumer to buy a new item who is addicted to it. It is very sad strategy, i am loosing trust on this product. Company makes durable hardware but dont provide technical support. dont even provide an official suggested solution. they are simply wasting our money and time by not giving direction whether there is solution available or not!. I bought a 32gb memory card as per the specifications and tried. it never updates the maps.it 's not going to be, so i never use my life time map updates due to this issue. I am loosing trust on this product. i will be moving to some other way for maps not the GPS.

  • I have been using my nuvi 2595 LMT for 8 years now. Not a single fault. Map updates. Firmware updates. PC software available and evolving. So, a brilliant product, do not speak about programmed obsolescence.

Batteries... have a life. longer or shorten in time depending on use and recharge factors...

Change battery and your problem gets solved. Around 10 bucks. It is not soldered, anyone can do it...

  • Thank you for your advice. I’m pleased to hear that your machine is trouble free. However as I am far from being the only person with this issue all I can say is you have been lucky. My sat nav has not been greatly used and there is no reason why this should be a battery issue; even if it is, then the battery is faulty. I will try changing the battery as you suggest (even though this is not something Garmin have proposed as a solution in my string of emails with them), however since this problem arose I’ve used Google Maps sat nav on my iPhone and find it quite as good and in some ways better than my Garmin.

  • Garmin does not like users to tinker with units. So, opening the unit is not an advice you are going to receive from

them. So, you have three paths: throw away the unit to the trash, pay garmin support, or... try to change the battery.

I do not agree that necessarily the battery was faulty. They degrade over time... even if not used; read for example, here:

If it has several years, that is it. Depleted. Fully wasted. You can learn how to check battery capacity and status in this

You can find many brands in ebay, such as https://www.ebay.com/itm/351075025265?epid=1801624179&hash=item51bdb3c171:g:d68AAOSwax5YwqCs

You will need a tor driver and a knife. Instructions, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h34mk2KHjtc

beware with the lower side, it is where the connector is, do not pull hard!!

The investment is not high, should this not be a solution for you.

    Enjoy!
