Yeah, smart-ass, the "underlying problem" is that it downloads all the previous rides at the same time it is trying to upload your latest ride. You don't need to be a software developer to realize that uploading the latest ride should be a priority before downloading any previous rides. Or how about having a setting to set how far back to download rides as someone suggested. Does it really need to download 200+ rides on my iPhone since January?? Seems to me this is just common sense.
I was finally able to escalate the situation to their Mobile Department and after a very long wait they agreed that the Application is at fault and should have the following:
1. A more intelligent way of synchronizing the records than brute force downloading of each and every workout from the server each time!
2. Allowing the user to set how far back in time the records should be kept on the App. The server should keep them all.
3. Doing the upload before any necessary downloads.
The mobile dept. contacted the software development group and learned that they are aware of this short coming and will address it in good time.

Looks like we are going to have to wait for a long time as yesterdays update made things even worse.
In what way? I did a short 3 mile test ride and data did upload without crashing. I didn't use my HRM or cadence/speed sensor on this bike though. I also didn't try livetracking yet.
So here's an interesting thing. For the fun of it, I just added a couple of manual activities in the App and to my surprise, they were uploaded immediately. Like Super fast! Whilst my GPS created activities still hung there.... Then my GPS activities uploaded!! I cant believe that's a pure coincidence. They were hanging for a day at least. Maybe the Manual activity broke some sort of digital log Jam..
