Uploading data from a .tcd file to Garmin Connect - HELP!

Hi,

Here's the story. I am really stumped about what to do.

I have data from Training Center and I would like to upload it to Garmin Connect. The installation of Training Center I was using maybe 18 months ago had all my data in it. I no longer have that installation but I have many backup files created at various times. These backups are in .tcd format which Garmin Connect cannot read directly. So I installed Training Center (version 3.6.5) expecting to be able to export to .tcx and then upload that to Garmin Connect.

Unfortunately when I "restore" any of those .tcd files in Training Center most of the older data is missing. Here's the thing. The data is in there. I can run sqlite queries (tcd is simply an sqlite database) against the .tcd files and I see it. But everything before April 17, 2011 is simply omitted when I do the restore. I've tried restoring multiple files, any of which would have the year or so I am missing, and they all start in 2011 even though the tcd file demonstrably has data back to 2004.

So basically, Training Center is failing to fully read the backup files it created itself. I know Training Center has been abandoned by Garmin in favor of Garmin Connect. I'm trying to make that switch myself too. But...

Does anyone have any ideas? My sqlite skills are nowhere near sufficient to convert this stuff to tcx myself. I'd like to try an older version of Training Center but I cannot find one to download. Is there another way to make the transition from Training Center to Connect?

  • Hello, my problem is that I have 3 backup files that were created by GTC with previous PCs.

I don't know what version of GTC was installed in previous PCs, and I never paid attention to the extension of backup files that were created.

Only few days ago I installed on my new PC version 3.6.5 of GTC and I discovered that I can open the backup file with extension TCX but not the 2 files with extension TCD.

I tried to make as per your indication: to restore, but GTC doesn't find the 2 files TCD, as if they don't exist...

I don't know, maybe they're corrupted or maybe I need to install an older version of GTC.

The only idea I have is to send you one of my file, to check if you can see it, or ask to Seilogramp for version 3.5.3 of GTC

    My Garmin was Forerunner 405cx

Now I'm using Forerunner 235 with no problem in Garmin Connect, but it is a pity if I lost all my old data :-(

Do you still have your old PC with GTC on it?

  • Hello, thank you for your answer.

    Below I answer you.

    Thank you for your kindness

    •  you know you have to browse yourself to the correct folder to find them -> yes of course, but it can't find it in the folder
I don't know, maybe they're corrupted or maybe I need to install an older version of GTC.
    • possible

    • you talk about tcx as backup file, did you export your activities via the histories TAB (see screenshot) -> yes I did it in the same way
    • how big are the three .tcd and .tcx backup files ?  -> 4.6 MB and 8.6 MB the two TCD files. 3.9MB the TCX file
The only idea I have is to send you one of my file, to check if you can see it
    • you can chat with me via pm, hover with the mouse over my user name and choose send PM
    • there you can provide a link to the .tcd and .tcx files on a cloud storage of your choice
    • or when the files are small enough, zip the files separate and drag & drop them on a message in chat (not here in the post) -> ok I'll try to do in this way
or ask to Seilogramp for version 3.5.3 of GTC
    • while we try and sort out your history  you still can try yourself and check with GTC version 3.5.3

    lots and lots of possibilities
