Activitiy stuck in "uploading" in Garmin Connect from Edge 500

I completed a ride this morning and tried to upload to garmin connect but the activity appears to be stuck in "uploading" and I can't see it on my activity list and none of the data is available.

I have tried re-uploading, chaining the name etc but it still is sat hanging in "uploading"

I have tried manual uploading but I just get a error saying it could not be uploaded.

Is there a way to get it onto garmin connect or is it now gone forever?
  • If you drill down through the menus on your Edge500 (history -> activities) and can find your activitiy in the list and it gives you the basic data from your ride, then it should be availabe to be uploaded.

    I suppose it might be possible that a bad piece of data in the file might be causing problems with the upload, but that's for someone more knowledgeable to answer.

    I have the same problem. When I check the activity on the device it says it is from 1989, so it seems it the device itself has created a file with invalid data. I have copied the Fit file to my computer and imported it (successfully) in Fit File Repair Tool (see http://fitfilerepairtool.info/download/). However I am not going to pay $49 for Fit File Repair Tool so that I can recover my file. I should mention that I have just purchased a new Garmin Edge 500 after my last Garmin Edge broke after I dropped it, so right now I don't feel like spending more money on Garmin related stuff :-)
  • I had same issue and solved it by master reset. After reset, the garmin connect and strava is able to detect and upload activities.

    To perform the master reset (save all you activities, all data on device will be lost):

    Power device off
    Press and hold Page/Menu, Start/Stop and Power simultaneously
    Release buttons when the word "Garmin" disappears
    After the Edge 500 is reset, it will walk through the initial setup. After completing this, leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for approximately 15 minutes to acquire satellite data.

    Upload isn't

    I had the same problem then noticed I was in Chrome and not Firefox. Garmin doesn't support Chrome (or vice versa) as I frustratingly found out through trial and error when I first tried the system but I'm a slow learner and forgetful so there you go. Now I don't bang my head so much when it happens

    Were you ever able to get it uploaded? I have a 910XT and the same problem - the activity is stuck "uploading." I don't get an error, it just hangs there. I don't want to do a master reset on the device, as that will erase the activity data on the device.

  • I've run into this a few times recently on an Edge 500 and an Edge 800. I can upload the file into Strava & ridewithgps but Garmin Connect goes into endless Uploading... in both Chrome and Safari. I hard reset both after the problem first occurred, but now it has happened again. At least I have Strava so I know I am 159 out of 494 on the Kyber.
  • Just to add my 2 bits...no solutions.

    Connect worked fine in April with old Edge 305. Today (yeah, it's been a while), tried to upload and had to download a new version of Connect. After that, it hangs. IE, Firefox, Chrome...same result. Can't update latest or selected. I had to extract from TC and do a manual upload to get Connect to work. Frustrating. Was planning to get a new Garmin (those numbers on the 305 are pretty small for my old eyes) but now, hmmmm.
  • Also just started happening now! Very frustrating. Is there anything in Garmin that isn't broken! :mad:

    Had to use the fit fix tool and then did a manual upload.
  • Had this happen to me today, think it may be something to do with following a route. Apparently stoping the ride at the end and holding lap/reset for 3 seconds properly terminates the ride which may fix it.

    In the mean time, I uploaded to Strava and exported the gpx from there for manual upload to GC, seemed to do the trick.
