Should be able to trim an activity and add splits after uploading

Wouldn't think such basic editing would have to be written up as a feature request. I don't think my garmin device has a "split feature". In spite of that I continue to use it rather than replace it or throw it away. Would be nice if I could add splits after uploading to garmin connect from my garmin device.

On the subject of editing, it would be nice if I could trim the garbage from the beginning and end of my activities.

No kidding -- half my races I forget to stop my Garmin as I cross the finish... so have to adjust in the summary.

Also when trying to base a course on an existing run, most of the time you want an edit (oops, took a wrong turn back there... sure don't want to use that in the course-upload!).
  • The requested feature has been in the forum for years, I dont understand why Garmin does not implement it. Please Garmin, at least tell us why dont you implement a trimming feature ?

Until it is done, you can donwload the program TCX converter, which allows to manipulate the data of any tcx (or fit) file :).

Well, I saw this problem again today. I am increasingly convinced Garmin will never lift a finger to correct this fundamental issue in Garmin Connect.

I am very disappointed. I've used Garmin units since the GPS III in the mid-90s. Software is going to be this company's downfall, and it really saddens me to say this.
  • C'mon Garmin, add this basic function. I hate having to waste time after every race using third party software to trim and then upload to GC.
  • I would have thought that this would be a MUST HAVE feature for training and racing data, which many of the garmin devices are used for. Having just purchased my first I can't beleive that this has not been added after so many users have asked about getting it added or how to do it.

    Very dissapointing.

I am clueless as to why Garmin ignores this. Should I assume Garmin wants to avoid the extra burden on the servers, by avoiding everyone trimming and editing activities ? Seems silly, so what else could it be ?

This feature is a must. One time I got into my car after a short run and forgot to turn off my watch. My speed average was like 45mph and the workout had to be thrown out completely. Most times I go into my stretches without turning off my watch, wish I could trim that off too!
  • Tikkall - sorry I had to laugh when I read your post - brilliant!!!!

I've posted on this topic previously and can't believe Garmin isn't working on it. Why don't they set up a paid subscription Garmin Connect (GC Premium - or something). I appreciate it's time and resource for them to do all this but I'm now starting to think that I'll try and find another software provider to analyse my runs/swims and I don't mind paying for premium tools. I always include my warm up and cool down in the workout that I send to my watch and then afterwards I want to exclude but can't.

The other really annoying thing is where I send my workouts to my device but it doesn't show the actual mile/km splits (only the average), and the graphs are pretty shocking too. Why cant we adjust the scale on the graphs axes !?!?!?!?!?! The zoom feature is useless without this!

    Rant over (for the moment)
  • Seems this lack of basic functionality can celebrate another year. I trimmed the crap off a couple of sessions using my desktop training db software, but then decided it wasn't worth the effort. I now just upload whatever is on the watch including crap at beginning and end. Makes the rest of the analysis the site produces worthless, but then I don't use those features either since they are based on bad data. :D

Seriously though, the only thing I actually use the site for now is sharing training data, comments, and observations with my training partner (yes just the one person). I'm actually amazed that Garmin would produce and maintain such a significant bit of infrastructure while not making it much more useful than a forum. Aside from HR+pace info, most of the value I get out of it is the training-blog/forum type communication and reflection. Wonder if facebook has a Garmin-App?

I just did this - I can't believe there is no way just to throw away the last section! I thought I had reset after the run and then started a new timer so I could watch how my heart rate returned to normal, but it has all come out as a single item!
