NAVTEQ Traffic Report Down?

Former Member
Former Member
My two Garmin GPS: 775T and 3490LMT both stopped showing traffic information via NAVTEQ since last week. I am in New Haven CT region.

775T with GTM21 receiver: Traffic indicator green light is on (from orange), indicating finding traffic stations and singals (?). However, no traffic icon popped up on the map screen. No traffic information can be displayed.

3490LMT with GTM35 receiver (not the bundled GTM 60): Since the traffic green icon always shows up on map, I push it to show traffic information. On this new screen, the top left bars showing some signal (full green bars or some yellow bars). The right side information panel says it is searching traffic signal, etc. However, it also failed to get any traffic update. No traffic is reported on any route, even I95 in New Haven section!

In the development information screens (via speedometer touch), both GPS received scatter FM traffic signals, and the FM stations screen showed normal amount of stations.

Wondering if anyone has also noticed this traffic broken down on NAVTEQ......

[Update]

This morning on my way to work, both of the GPS reported some traffic information for about five minutes when I was in local, then both lost signals again on Merritt Parkway. 3490LMT showed nor traffic signal bar on traffic screen and no signal for 30 min all the way. 775T's GTM 21 traffic indicator light was green but flashing all the way, indicating bad signal, too.

Well Garmin had me update my software and delete the FM Tables and still not getting any traffic here in the New Haven/Bridgeport area and they claim have had not any trouble reports from Navteq. I did email them too but still have not got a reply back. I do have a second unit that is my parents and going to test that one out tonight to see if the traffic comes up on theirs and try the cord on my unit. If not will have to either exchange the nuvi or send the cable in for a replacement which we know wont help much (I think)

    Horrible experience with Garmin service!

Follow up on my thread and update.

After one day of "normal" traffic information from my Garmin GPS, the traffic information went dead again for the rest of the week.

Same issue: Good FM signals (at least you can check it on 3490LMT's traffic report screen which shows green bars for traffic signal, not GPS signal). However, the receiver could not receive any traffic update, it stuck in searching for traffic information. This is from a 3490LMT/GTM35 combo.

Similar situation also happened on my 775T/GTM21 combo. There must be a problem with either Garmin or NAVTEQ, or both. Can't believe Garmin still denies the problem. I already email them my travel log as they requested, still waiting for response.

This is what I replied to Garmin with yesterday with an update on my unit, would have commented yesterday but for some reason, I can't logon at home to here. As for the few that were showing, two were for an area on the Taconic Pky on NY if I recall correctly and 2 were for RT 1 out in the Stonington/Mystic area after I looked at each one.

Yesterday, took a ride with my 2460 and my parents 2460 up to MA and back down to souhern CT. Had no traffic until I got in range of a Hartford area station broadcasting trafffic, had traffic most of the time up that way except for a little strectch in MA til I got to the Springfield area. On my back down 84, the traffic icon went away on my parents unit just as I was getting into Waterbury area but stayed on the display on my unit. Continued to drive down to Milford which is in the New Haven/Milford coverage area and the icon stayed on but when I looked at traffic incedents, it was only showing a few items from New York about 40 miles away and showed traffic up to date. When I checked the GTM Status, it showed that was using 99.10 when I am not getting traffic info in Southern Connecticut and believe it is a problem of lack of data being transmitted versus being an issue with the cords or GPS units based on what I got yesterday and what others were posting. I mentioned it to someone last night where I eating and was told by a few people that they are also not getting traffic info on their units.

Similar to my situation. FM station seems to be on 99.1, and received plenty of signal "counts" under UTM status (forgot the exact name). So the FM receiver actually displayed "strong signal" bars on the dashboard. However, it still reported "looking for traffic signals". I have suspicions that the station may not transmitting enough (or correct) signals from NAVTEQ that can be "translated" in Garmin GPS........

I'm not sure how to read what the signal strength is under the GTM status but yes is does seem that the issue is with 99.10 sending a bad data stream. I'm just waiting for a reply from Garmin now to see what their reply is trying to blame it on the cord and not what is being sent by Navteq.

On GTM status in most of the Garmin units (invoked by the speedometer holding), there are couple recordings about the traffic signals. One is about the signal strength (level?), which varys from 0 to upper 60 (non to very strong, etc). Also there is a "counts" that I assume is about the total traffic signal it received during the trip. Not sure how those are being interpreted, though.

Went out on my break to check the level - lost the traffic icon on my screen (I left it on and plugged in) here in New Haven - was going between low 40s when had on my seat and floor and 50s when I put the GPS on the dash so it looks like good siginal.

Since February 1, or late January 31, the traffic report in New Haven region is back to normal, and has been normal for the past three days. Something must have been fixed. Not sure what....... Still the original broken region includes I-95 to I-84 (S to N), and I-91 to Rt. 8 (E to W) area, with 99.1 FM station. now it seems ok.
  • Traffic icon missing on map screen

    Hi All,
From Feb 2nd onwards my 265WT started showing icon consistently.
I have been experiencing the issue until Feb 2nd.

It should be an issue fro Garmin side or third party traffic providers issue that Garmin might have sorted out.

But not courteous enough to reveal during service calls for at least life time traffic subscribers.

Anyone experiencing the issue with life time traffic receiver with GTM35, please follow the FM table reset once and wait patiently for days.

Make sure while reconnecting.. first connect the GTM 35 cable to car and turn the car key and ensure that GTM35 receiver gets power. Then only connect the GPS unit and just forget about it.

Southern CT Traffic Woes are Back

Or maybe they never left? I regularly drive I95 between Bridgeport and Stamford and have never experienced usable traffic information in that area. I have a Nuvi 3590 and after 6 calls to tech support and my 3rd GTM-60 receiver, I find my Nuvi absolutely useless for traffic despite Navteq's coverage maps showing uniformly strong coverage throughout the area. Closer in to NY, things start to work fine.

I still don't know if the Navteq maps are fraudulent, the GTM-60 receiver is poor, or the firmware is defective (or all 3) but Garmin just shrugs and says tough luck.

I am curious how many others have been duped into paying for a traffic feature that just doesn't work in their area (despite coverage maps showing it should).
