NAVTEQ Traffic Report Down?

Former Member
Former Member
My two Garmin GPS: 775T and 3490LMT both stopped showing traffic information via NAVTEQ since last week. I am in New Haven CT region.

775T with GTM21 receiver: Traffic indicator green light is on (from orange), indicating finding traffic stations and singals (?). However, no traffic icon popped up on the map screen. No traffic information can be displayed.

3490LMT with GTM35 receiver (not the bundled GTM 60): Since the traffic green icon always shows up on map, I push it to show traffic information. On this new screen, the top left bars showing some signal (full green bars or some yellow bars). The right side information panel says it is searching traffic signal, etc. However, it also failed to get any traffic update. No traffic is reported on any route, even I95 in New Haven section!

In the development information screens (via speedometer touch), both GPS received scatter FM traffic signals, and the FM stations screen showed normal amount of stations.

Wondering if anyone has also noticed this traffic broken down on NAVTEQ......

[Update]

This morning on my way to work, both of the GPS reported some traffic information for about five minutes when I was in local, then both lost signals again on Merritt Parkway. 3490LMT showed nor traffic signal bar on traffic screen and no signal for 30 min all the way. 775T's GTM 21 traffic indicator light was green but flashing all the way, indicating bad signal, too.

I'm having the same issue the last week with no data in the New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury areas of the state. Thought was an issue with my unit but did get data when I went to PA this weekend going through the NY area and got a signal while in Torrington area last night. I have a new 2460LMT with the GTM35 but I don't get the traffic icon on the screen in the area I need it the most.
  • Already Reported This To Garmin Customer Support

See my other response to the thread concerning poor traffic data in and around Southern Connecticut. I contacted customer support over the weekend and made to sure to inform them of what has been going on, as it has now been reported by several users in this forum. I even linked to the thread in my note to Garmin c.s.

Naturally, their response was basically that it's a bad FM receiver and I should pay to send it back, and also pay up front for a new FM receiver to be shipped to me , the cost of which would allegedly be re-credited to my card at some point in the future.

It couldn't possibly a deeper problem; never mind the fact that people in and around our area are all experiencing the same symptoms, using many different Garmin devices with several types of GMT receiver models. Keep pushing that story Garmin, maybe the problems will just go away if you ignore them.

    Mike,

Thanks for the follow ups. I was busy this weekend and today and did not do any follow up.

However, during today's drive in the afternoon, I noticed traffic information icon on my 775T. So for curiosity, I plugged in 3490LMT with GTM 35 together, and both received same traffic information update. During the rush hour drive, around 530pm around Rt 691 to Rt 91, I also received pretty good traffic update. While they were not local, they did show the usual congestion spots such as rt 95 at West Haven. The last drive I took was all local, and the traffic seemed still working up to 8pm.

Of course, it would just be a fluke. I will do more testing tomorrow on the way to work. Thanks again.
  • Today is the same for me as it's been ever since I bought the unit. It is about a week old, and I have not once seen a single traffic update displayed, despite traveling through numerous traffic jams, mainly along I-95 and at the I-91/I-95 merger. I've driven all up and down 95 between Milford and New Haven, and also on 91 as far north as North Haven. For the vast majority (95%?) of the time, the traffic menu shows a full set of green bars, which as far as I understand indicates a great FM signal. The message that I always see is "searching for service". In the very few occasions I haven't seen a good FM signal, the device displays a message like "searching for signal for X minutes", where X keeps increasing as time goes on, e.g. 4 minutes, 5 minutes, etc. I am using the GTM36 FM receiver that came with my 2595LMT device. There is a possibility it could be an issue with receiver, but if that were the case, why would the signal strength be full almost all of the time?

Well I am waiting on replys back from Gamin and also Navteq to see if they are aware of an issue with there data feed. Also just did a reset of the traftfic tables to see if that will help or not and shall see when I leave work later today. I thought the cable was a GTM 35 but is a GTM 36 from what is on the cord.
  • Well, at around 5:30 pm tonight I received the very first traffic updates on my new device. The only problem is that while I sat in heavy traffic through New Haven without any information, the unit was telling me about traffic issues 40-50 miles away in New York. i suspect that I was getting signals from much further away due to the really good weather conditions today. As far as I can tell, there is still no local information being reported for the greater New Haven area, at least as of this evening.

Also, I think this now debunks the customer support myth that any problem must surely be a bad FM receiver. The unit is getting a strong FM signal almost all of the time, and now I see that it can indeed display traffic data. There has to be something deeper at work here involving the Navteq to Garmin data feed.
  • Traffic icon missing on map screen

I have this same problem and i have lifetime subscription.
  • Traffic icon missing on map screen

I live in NEW HAVEN , CT.
Garmin Customer service reset my GTM tables/personal info.
No luck. No traffic for 2 weeks.

There is a certificate in unit that says, traffic subscription will end when third party stops providing traffic to NAVTEQ or unit life time which ever is shorter.

Is this an issue? Then Garmin should not call this life time traffic.
  • Traffic icon missing on map screen

Garmin service sells me GTM 35 cable for 70 USD.
But my cable is working ok and it shows me traffic subscription when 'settings' is chosen while unit is connected to cable. GTM info are showing up. But it is searching for channels for a quite long time, which is unusual.
  • Traffic icon missing on map screen

Is GTM life time traffic a scam?
i bought mine in Dec 2009. it is just over 2 years.
And i also bought life time maps for two units that i have including this.

Looks like Garmin customer service is not handling this issue in right spirit.
