NUVI 3790T route issue!

I have a old NUVI 660, and puchased a new one NUVI 3790T. Really like this new device.

However, I find the new guy always guides me out off main road and let me drive into school zone and living area block. There are a lot of roundabout and speed bump. I have already upgraded the latest firmware.

To explain that, please let me make a example.

Start point is A and destination point is B.

Normally, drive on main road 1, and then make a left turn on the main road 2 and straight way drive down to point B. Main road 1 and Main road 2 cross each other and become a 90 degree corner.

3790T will guide me to a short cut route which cut the corner of Main road 1 and 2, but it let me drive into living block, there are so many roundabout and speed bump.

This happens anywhere in my city (Melbourne, Australia). Whatever how I choose the faster time, economic fuel or shorter distance (route doesn't change).

I hope this can be fixed as soon as possible.

5 months and still no solution in sight

It is somehow comforting to find out I am not alone suffering this plight.

It has now been 5 months since I purchased my 3790T and have been experiencing the exact same symptoms you have all been describing. My GPS unit:

    • either inserts odd, extraneous turns instead of following a straight route
    • or decides to dead reckon when it should not

I have communicated with Garmin upward of 40 emails, 2 phone calls, 3 tickets, and more than 30 screenshots. To this day, the only answer I am getting from Tier 1 support is "We are working on it." None of the tickets have been closed or at least Garmin has not dared informing me they have close those. No ETA, no workaround, no beta patch firmware, no follow-up but for me calling them back... nothing but a good word.

I have a very expensive paperweight on my desk that I have stopped trying to use as it has too many times confused me, misguided me, and delayed me.

A GPS unit is about trust: I do not trust my 3790T.

How long can Garmin remain silent?

I have the nuvi 3790 and I am really disappointed with some of the routes my satnav tries to take me. I had a Navman before and that was excellent. I am wishing I hadn't changed

Some of the problems I have are:-

    1) Takes me off at motorway junction, takes me round the roundabout and then back on to the motorway

    2) On 'A' roads tries to take me into lay-by and then back on to the road I am on.

    3) On 'A' roads takes me off the road, and on to an adjacent road which was on a residential estate and then back on to the road I was just on.

    4) I missed a turning today. I was on a Country Lane and realised I had missed the turning but it was too late to stop. I had 19 miles to go at the time. The SatNav recalculated and told me to proceed the way I was still travelling and the trip was now 30 miles to go. All I had to do was carry out a U Turn by turning off into a left hand turn 100 yards further along and then make my way back to the turn I had missed.

All very well if you keep and eye on the route the 3790 is taking you or if you sort of know the area but for a £200+ SatNav it is beyond a joke and I wished I had stopped with Navman.

    Cheers
    Simon
  • I have similar problems with my Nuvi 3790T, as well as not being able to get traffic reports in central london.

Look at these forums, most Garmin devices have bugs or "issues" when released, once Garmin have your money they seem to do little to accept or evenfind a fix to the problem.

I had many problems with my nuvi, recently many with a time-keeping issue with my 310xt, which on earlier firmware also often froze.
From the forums the 610 seems to have many problems...

    Buyer beware...
