NUVI 3790T route issue!

I have a old NUVI 660, and puchased a new one NUVI 3790T. Really like this new device.

However, I find the new guy always guides me out off main road and let me drive into school zone and living area block. There are a lot of roundabout and speed bump. I have already upgraded the latest firmware.

To explain that, please let me make a example.

Start point is A and destination point is B.

Normally, drive on main road 1, and then make a left turn on the main road 2 and straight way drive down to point B. Main road 1 and Main road 2 cross each other and become a 90 degree corner.

3790T will guide me to a short cut route which cut the corner of Main road 1 and 2, but it let me drive into living block, there are so many roundabout and speed bump.

This happens anywhere in my city (Melbourne, Australia). Whatever how I choose the faster time, economic fuel or shorter distance (route doesn't change).

I hope this can be fixed as soon as possible.

    NUVI 3790T route issue!

    Well you're not Robinson Crusoe.

My new garmin NUVI 3790T has had me routed down a suburban street for 5 Km full of speed bumps and roundabouts - PARALLEL - to a main road; Left then right through suburban streets just to make a RIGHT hand turn at a major road intersection that has a RGT Runnoff and even down a dirt track at one time when a more direct rout via Major roads was nearby.

At one pont I thought that Garmin had mis-programmed the "Don't Use" bit but I get the same convoluted routes no matter what options I choose.

It will get you there, but certainly not via the shortest, fastest or most economical route. I'm also dissapointed that it doesn't -learn - the routes once you've driven them more than once. Seems to me this would be a basic spec for such a device.

I could probably even live with the above if I could design and download routes from my computer, but that seems to be out of the question as well.

Overall I'm both annoyed and frustrated at this device which is destined to be an expensive filler for the bottom drawer; particularly given that all the advice I'm receiving from the so called "experts" is based on theory and marketing rather than real world knowledge and experience of the product.
  • Has any one else found that when travelling up the M1 in England the 3790T always routes me off down to the roundabout with the A141 at junction 8 then back onto the M1 again, in both directions!

I have a similar problem on the A14 where my 3790 keeps telling me to turn left into every layby, and when I don't it recalculates.

    NUVI 3790T route issue!

The good news: Garmin tech support assure me that this sort of issue is fixed by a Map Update ( so it seems it's a known issue ) and that a map update is available for my system.

The bad news: After having remote access to my computer and the unit for an hour Garmin tech support were not able to install the Map Update. It consistantly shows that the maps are up to date.

Garmin tech support were also not able resolve the issue where the Dashboard constantly shows that a software update is available for the unit, but the software version on the unit itself shows as the latest.

Garmin tech support suggest that I wait a week and see if the issues "resolve themselves".

I guess that's one way to clear a Trouble Ticket and keep your KPIs in bounds. Doesn't do much for the customer satiisfaction factor though.
  • 3790t route issue

    Cybertraveller:
which region do you live in?
i.e for which region would the map update be available?
I live in Europe and I have teh same problem.

As far as installing updates are concerned: I saw on the net that it is adivsed to just unplug the Garmin from the PC after updating. i.e not to perform an " eject" procedure".
  • after several attempts I got the firmware update to 2.5 to "stick", which did including pulling the USB without dismounting first.

I have updated my European Maps, as soon as I got my device (after several abortive attempts at downloading from the garmin server.) The mis directions still happen.

I cannot however get selected N American NT maps to appear unlocked on my NUVI despite dashboard stating they are unlocked and they are available in base camp.

The FM traffic receiver also seems to more often than not "poor reception" and not work even on major roads ie the M1 and M6 !!!!!

It looks like it will be going back under trading standards as not fit for purpose.

    It happening to me too!

I just fired up my 3790T Xmas pressie and took it on a short trip from Dunstable to Bletchley. This is a very straightforward route using just the A5 for 99% of the journey. The unit had me going into side roads, off slip roads and back on from the other sides etc. It even tried to route me into a cafe car park instead of using the major roundabout 75 yards further on?

This is funny if you know your route but if you don't it's terminal!!

I have all the latest versions of software and maps according to the web updater so it looks like Garmin are shipping a dud:(
  • M1 junction 8 A414 still gives me the "detour" to the roundabout with the latest map updates.

There was a lot of traffic so it is difficult to know whether it is an intended deviation "to avoid traffic" or a bug, without looking ahead on the device.

What do you have your route preferences set to? avoid motorways.. traffic...u-turns...?

Voice control does not "look" at traffic nor further down route!

I spoke to Garmin support today

I called Garmin':)s UK support today and the agent told me that there will be a fix for this issue out soon (he couldn't give me a timeframe). He acknowledged that there is a known issue with the current latest s/w version that causes this problem.
  • expensive lemon

I have the same problem with my Nuvi3790T and software updates did not help.

Does not matter which route option I choose it always guides me via the shortest (I guess) routes, not always very safe and pleasant.
I live in Brooklyn N.Y. and while ago I've tried my GPS on a straight road (Ave XYZ) about 1.5 km from my house. My house is located one city block south from (Ave XYZ) . Started my test and after driving straight on Ave XYZ for about 100 meters GPS told me to make a left turn (go north) and at the next intersection take the route paralel to Ave XYZ.Then drive for about 1km and go south to the previous road. Also drivinf in tri state area around New York City this GPS does not recognize major shopping centers. My old TomTom was cheaper but always directed me the right way.
From reading other posts I can see that this is common problem
