Garmin GPSmap 62 squeaky case

anyone else have problems with their case? some on geocaching.com are having problems, i am one of them.

i contacted GARMIN thru email support, but they have yet to reply.

the seller is sending me an RMA, but now i'll be without a unit for a while and i'll be out some shipping charges. i wonder what GARMIN will do for me? anything? free case for it? for $400+ you would think it would be rock solid like the 60 series was, but the case appears to have some problems.

see below:

here is a link to the picture of where the squeak occurs. also when powering it on/off it creaks/squeaks. sounds like some play in the plastic housing.
  • Calling All Squeaky GPSMap 62 Users

I spoke with Garmin this week about my Squeaky GPSMap 62s. Sadly, they're in denial. They don't seem to think it's a problem. Someone at Garmin has their head buried in the sand.... Anyway, enough venting.

Face it, we spent over $400 bucks for an outstanding GPS unit and now we've got to fix the squeak that came with it. Let's get serious about this. Has anyone tried WD-40? How about a bit of 100% silicon lube? Has anyone opened the case to see if a dab of well placed epoxy takes care of it?

Thanks for any info you care to share.

yes people have, not myself. i got one from MEC, so if there's a problem in the future, no matter how old, they'll take care of it and me without question.

read some more options for removing the squeak here: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=253992&st=350

i think there are a few more posts about it earlier in the thread, but you can have a look.

    Mine squeaked as well. LOUDLY!

Thankfully, Amazon is great with returns.

    My PN-60 has no squeaks...
  • No help

    Friends :
My name is Martin and I live in Argentina and I recently bought a 62s .
The case is squeezing allways .
Garmin is making cheaper and lower quality units year by year.
In Argentina is the only brand that we can use with free maps.
That´s the reason cause I use Garmin .
62s has nothing in common with 60Csx quality case.
60Csx is a rock solid and 62s seems fragile like Nuvis .
Garmin won´t help anybody with this.
I can´t reset the odometer since I bought 62s and still waiting a firmware fix .
My suggestion is that if you can choose other maps, choose another brand.
    Thank you very much Martin

    >>I can´t reset the odometer since I bought 62s and still waiting a firmware fix .
This is not a bug. - You can always reset the odometer by resetting the unit. (then all data are resetted including odometer).

Squeaky is also not a bug.
The unit is still getting gps signals, if it's squeaky or not.
  • You´re wrong

    PROGRAMMANAGER :

I´m affraid that the odometer is a bug.
If you know something about Garmin units, you could tell me why in 60Csx,Vista Hcx and Cx and of course in Oregon, it can be reseted and why in 62S not?

This made me laught :" Squeaky is also not a bug.
The unit is still getting gps signals, if it's squeaky or not."

With your way of think, the unit also has signal with a broken case, but it´s not the point.Or you want a unit with a broken case ?
Maybe the correct word insn´t bug, maybe is a very cheap and low cost case is more suittable for this point.
    Good luck Martin

    Re: Squeaky case

My wife gave me a 62s for Christmas this year (which was a wonderful present), however I must say...the squeaky case is quite disappointing. The unit is fully functional, so perhaps I should count my blessings and get out there to enjoy it....but every time it squeaks, the word "cheap" just pops into my head :(

I have solved the open gpsmap62, with a greasy finger silicone spray passes over the seal and shut off by tightening the screws strong...
    sorry my english!!!!:)
