Legend HCx, freezes on maps, but not on data screen

i've tried troubleshoothing this on the geocache site, thought i would try over here. my Legend HCx is over 1 year old, so it's out of warranty. not sure how longs it's been doing it, but it's been a while now.

i've been experiencing this problem for a while now, somoene in sweeden also had the same problem and thinks others may encounter it too, but not even know about it.

his theory is, when you are travelling in a car, towards a cache (co-ordinates), then when the car comes to rest, it someone freezes the map screen, and that's actually exactly how mine froze the other day.

when i arrive at a geocache in my car, i started walking towards it. the gps showed a direct line (navigate off road chosen) and i toggled to the data screen and it said 65M away. i start walking and the data screen distance shows 62, 60....35, 33, 5, 3 until i'm basically standing on top of the co-ordinates. i toggle back to the map screen (i don't touch the joystick button) and it still shows me a fair distance away, actually basically where the car is 65-70m away. i zoom in and out, walk around and it still does not move a bit, but the data screen continues to function as normal.

anyone, i mean anyone, has anyone else had this experience or know how to fix it. i've tried firmware updates, just did a hard reset, changed memory cards. only advise garmin gave was to update firmware even though i told them i was up to date or send it to RAYTECH in canada and pay $110+16 shipping as well as shipping charges to them. basically, the cost of a new GPS in the end.

PLEASE HELP ME.....

    Hi Bruce,

I have an simmular problem with the Legend Hcx. When i'm heading towards an cache and approcing the destination, i try to zoom in, the map suddently freezes. Other screens are still functioning and the data fields still says how far i'm from my destination.

The only thing i can do is zoom out an few steps or swith over to the compass. My GPS is only one month old, but i really would like to know if it's an hardware issue or map software. I'm using topo 2010 Benelux..... The software of the GPS is up-to-date, so this should be an problem.

so i'm not alone. perhaps there are others that will weigh in on this as well. same here though, map freezes but data screens are still active.

i'm thinking it's on all units, but most people don't realize. i went out today and got 3 caches, most were fine. but i had to restart it once. i left it frozen on one, then drove away, and it unfroze, no problems. perhaps it just takes a while for it to recalibrate after coming down from a speed velocity.

i've also done some geobiking latetely, stopped in on at least 10 one day, didn't have to reset it once.
