Large Garmin 500 Fit file gets internal server error

I did a 5:30:00 with a powertap hub. I successfully loaded the file to Training Peaks through the device interface as well as Training Center. When I tried to load it to Garmin Connect, I get an internal server error.

To add to this, I tried to delete the activities from Connect, but get a "Bad Request" message and it won't go away.

I also tried to load the .fit file manually, but get the "this activity already exists" error.

The activity seems to partially load. I see summary data, but the map won't render, nor will graphs show up.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I have a 13hr race file I can't load and get internal errors for, but yet I had a 7hour training file that loaded fine last week

Can you export the file out of training center and load back into Garmin Connect later? If so I'll just load stuff into Training Centre for now till they get a fix...

    Cheers

  • I tried a TCX file exported from Garmin TC for a problem ride and had the same issue.

I guess Garmin Connect is not designed for serious athletes ???

    Same issue...

I've having the same issue trying to upload a TCX file. It's only from a 2 hour ride.

FWIW, a ~15 hour/200mi segment of a 400K brevet I recorded on my 305 this past weekend also fails to upload (I ran out of batteries), so it's not just a issue with the 500 or .fit files.
  • Issue appears resolved

Garmin Connect update yesterday (01 April 2010) appears to have fixed the issue of getting an 'internal server error' when aatempting to view and analize long rides (~5hr plus) that generated large .fit files.
Update also included some welcome improvements to user interface.

  • I saw that... in fact I was also able to delete some of the duplicates when I tried multiple channels to load (which I could not delete prior to the update).

My large activities that loaded with internal server error now seem to map and behave properly.

I appreciate that this issue was addressed.

The .tcx file from my brevet I mentioned a few messages up still fails to upload after the GC upgrade. Looks like I may be having a different problem. Guess I'll get support involved.

It's getting to the point where this past Saturday/Sunday I left my 305 behind on a 360k Fleche. I also left behind the frustration of how to keep the device charged, and the frustration of not being able to reliably upload. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm beginning to think I've been doing it all wrong. Maybe I should just be using a basic cyclecomputer mounted to the handlebars, and a standalone GPS unit stashed in the handlerbar bag (like a map, only used when needed).

    same problem

I have the same problem with a 4h 48 min ride with laps of 5 km. I had another ride of 4 h 4 min which works fine in Garmin connect. So the limit is somewhere between these two durations.

i am not convinced that the problem is based on duration. i did an under 4 hour ride that i'm now getting the same problem. tack onto that a previous problem with the 500 not storing an activity unless you follow an exact sequence prior to shutting the device down, and frankly i have a product that i can no longer safely rely on.

it's actually rather frustrating. when the device works, it's awesome. but more often that not it does not. and i'm currently at 2.29.0.0 on my firmware.
  • I recorded a long activity while hiking. I can save it in GC but I get an error when I try to display details. From Dashboard I get an Internal server error. I can't either delete it.
TC doesn't either see the activity!
File in the EDGE is 252kb, not the largest
    What can I do?
