Large Garmin 500 Fit file gets internal server error

I did a 5:30:00 with a powertap hub. I successfully loaded the file to Training Peaks through the device interface as well as Training Center. When I tried to load it to Garmin Connect, I get an internal server error.

To add to this, I tried to delete the activities from Connect, but get a "Bad Request" message and it won't go away.

I also tried to load the .fit file manually, but get the "this activity already exists" error.

The activity seems to partially load. I see summary data, but the map won't render, nor will graphs show up.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

  • 5:00 hour ride today and the same thing happens.:(
  • Update: My 1:30 recovery ride today uploaded perfectly, but I am also getting a "Forbidden" error when I try to rename the activity.
  • Back to the same issue with a 5:30:00 ride yesterday.
  • At the request of Garmin Support, I posted the fit files that won't upload. The response was that this was Garmin Connect issue and I needed to go back to the Garmin Connect Forum for a solution.

The issue remains, and my fit files are good.
  • Same problems here...

    Edge 500. Firmware v2.20

3 hour ride on Saturday, no issues. 5 hour ride on Sunday gets the dreaded "Internal Server Error". The data actually uploads, it just seems like generating the Google Map and Graphs causes some issues.

I ran into a similar issue with my Edge 705 and was able to remedy it by shutting off the 1 second recording rate however this is not an option with the 500 nor would I want to do that anyway.

    Garmin... Any thoughts?

    Same here

    Edge 500 v 2,20

Same probs - small sessions work fine. Large sessions generate Internal server error.

Am surprised by Garmin's lack of response to these forums (but then again, many 'support' forums are there for customers to support themselves >:-|

I am not too impressed to have done a 14 hour ride and not see my results. Hopw it gets sorted soon!

(File works OK in Garmin training centre tho)...
  • Today's Garmin Connect update did not fix inability to delete a failing workout. Hopefully, this will be addressed soon.

I did find that by using TCX Converter to cut down a working out 10k tracks allows it to be consumed and processed properly.

    Cheers,

I'm having the exact same issues.

Can someone from Garmin move this thread to the Known Issues forum?
  • I am having exactly the same problem with large .fit files from new Edge 500 which is not displaying all relevant information in Garmin Connect. All firmware etc is updated and still no joy.
I e-mailed Garmin and got the following response, which I include for general information:

    [FONT="Courier New"]"Dear xxxx,
I am writing to you in regards to the upload problems you have been experiencing with large .fit files created by your Edge 500 device. I am very sorry that you have experienced this problem. I have researched this and unfortunately, there is no resolution for this issue at this time. I have sent a request to the engineers on your behalf to modify the Garmin Connect application to handle larger files. Unfortunately, I will have no way of knowing if this can be done or not. There could be practical application problems that I am currently unaware of that is causing this limitation. In the meantime, I can only suggest that your longer rides be broken up into individual laps/activities. Maybe when stopping for a break, save the data and start a new lap/activity so that even if they are broken up, you will be able to view all the data.
I do apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you. If you do not wish to do this, you may want to view the longer rides in Training Center instead.
If there is anything else I may assist you with, please let me know.
    With Best Regards,

Clearly Garmin don’t have a quick solution to this !
Its all a bit strange (ie frustrating) given that the Edge 500 is supposed to be the latest and greatest, and used in the pro peloton for long stage races that will undoubtedly create files far larger than what I create on whilst training.

There needs to be pressure placed upon Garmin to fix this asap.

I'm having the same problem with a few rides that are +5 hour with 1-sec record on my Edge 705. I have to set my 705 to 1-second record as I've got a power meter.
