Comparing activities no longer works

When I select two or more activities to compare and then tap the compare button, only a white page appears.

No matter which browser I use, even clearing the cache didn't help.

Is anyone else having the same problem? Is this a new bug?

Does anyone have a solution?
  • I always get the expected response 200 for the 'envelope' URL, so as I wrote, in your place, I would either wait a few hours or a day, whether the error 429 (Too Many Requests) goes away, or try it from a completely different computer and location. If it does not go away, contact the Product Support, and request the assistance from them directly.

  • Status 429 is interesting, it says "Too Many Requests."

If you are referring to the sentry.io request, it doesn't matter.

sentry.io is a 3rd party analytics service. Connect works fine without it.

In my testing, for sentry.io I have either seen:

    - If my ad blocker is off: 200 (successful) or 429 (too many requests)

    - If my ad blocker is on: blocked by client. (after all, sentry.io *is* a 3rd party tracking/monitoring service. Garmin cannot prove to ad blockers that it's not used for things that the end user doesn't like)

But it makes no difference. All the pages in Connect work for me, including the comparison page, regardless of the result for sentry.io.

You can look at other, working, pages in Connect, and hopefully you should also see that even if sentry.io requests fail or are blocked, the pages still work.

  • btw it may be helpful to add the "url" column to the dev tools network tab's request list, so you can more easily distinguish which requests go to garmin.com (which means they are probably relevant), and which requests go to other sites (which means they may not be crucial *)

[*] of course some external requests may be important, like a request to the google maps API

  • Yes, I just noticed that sentry.io isn't playing a role (as "flowstate" also described).

So it must be related to the other two error messages somehow.

    What I've discovered:
It seems to have something to do with the new HRM 600 chest strap.
So I was able to narrow down the comparisons that don't work.
Only all activities (in my case, it was running) recorded outdoors with the HRM aren't comparable.

Does anyone happen to have this configuration and can test it?

Sounds like it could be the inverse of the problem I mentioned in my first comment, where the *lack* of step speed loss breaks the chart reordering feature.

In this case, it sounds like the *presence* of step speed loss (or some other HRM-600 related metric) is breaking your comparisons.

Can you share one of the broken activities with us? You can remove location data to keep your privacy safe.

    - open a broken activity in the Connect website

    - Click on the gear icon - upper right hand corner - and select Export File

This will export your activity FIT file inside of a ZIP file.

    [1/x]

  • use the field stripper at fitfiletools.com to remove location data. You can use fitfileviewer.com to make sure the resulting file doesn't have a map

    [2/x]

  • If you strip location data from the file, you will have zip the edited file, in order to post it here.

    Mac: support.apple.com/.../mac

    [3/x]

  • - post the resulting file in this thread

If you can do this, I'll import the FIT file to my own profile, try to use it in a comparison and see if I have the same problem. If I can reproduce the problem, I might be able to cook up a script to work around it, same as I did for the chart reordering thing.

Sorry I had to split my comment into 4 parts, but these forums suck

Well, I can compare activities using HRM 600 without any errors, but my watch does not support the new RD metrics like speed loss, so it might be really that.
