Sudden change in Active Calories, Venu 3

No big changes in activity levels, but, I suddenly was burning up an extra 800 calories!

If only it were true.

  • Based on the information you posted in your other thread, I guess that it happened because you changed your age by 6 years, in the User Profile, and consequently also the Max Heart Rate changed. That, of course, will result in a different Calories calculation.

I recommend verifying the Max HR value in Device Settings » User Profile. The best would be doing a field Max HR test (look it up on YouTube), instead of using the default formula (220-age), or taking the highest HR from the stats. Some watch models offer Max HR auto-detection, but it is not always reliable enough, and it may take some time and high intensity activities before you get an accurate value. Also check whether the Resting HR and LTHR are set to credible values.

  • In the other thread I was referring to my old Vivoactive. But I do think I did try to edit the zone info on my Venu 3 around that time because I was unsure about the max HR values that were showing up at times. So it appears that there is some overlap or interaction of these values that are based on fixed parameters that users set(?). The calories glitch seemed to take several days to settle out again as you can see from subsequent days on that graph. This particular glitch was fairly obvious, but there have been later ones that are less glaring. On 8/17 I noticed about a 300+ calorie glitch on what was on a particularly low-key inactive day.

  • In the other thread I was referring to my old Vivoactive.

If you changed your age by 6 years, as you wrote in the other thread, and have only one Garmin Connect account, then the age is changed for all devices connected to the account. The HR Zones are unimportant and irrelevant, but changing the age will change also the Max HR, which has a great impact on Active Calories. If Max HR auto-detection is enabled, it may eventually indeed adjust to a more realistic level.

There are also other possibilities for the higher Active Calories on August 13, but you would have to post the screenshots of the following pages - that could help to see the difference in the HR during those days:
