Calorie count absurdly high

Since last Sunday my calorie count has been absurdly high. As in, literally waking up to already having burnt 3000 call! And finishing a fairly regular and chill Sunday with an easy strength workout at 9.393 Dizzy face If that were true I would be eating non-stop and not gain a gram.

My average rest cal was 1668 and suddenly jumped to 8.442 on Sunday. On Monday as well with just 30 min on a cross trainer, it says that I burned more than 1.000 calories. Even while wearing a chest heart rate monitor.

I have checked all of my personal data: weight, height, age resting and max heart rate. Nothing changed. My heart rate data is also not showing anything abnormal. Checked for updates, restarted the watch, but I can't figure it out.

Anyone have an idea?

  • You wrote you checked the body weight, but I would recommend double-checking it again. Do it directly on the watch as well as in Garmin Connect. Make sure you use the right units, too.

  • Unfortunately, still the same. Both on web, the app or my watch. Even updated my weight, and all units. Checked min-max heartrate. But even as I've just put on my watch an hour ago, while sitting at my desk, I've apparently already burned 158 active calories..
    Really at a loss here

  • I suggest resetting the watch to factory defaults (with the option of deleting all data). Set it then up anew without restoring any backups.

  • Thanks for thinking along! Would that mean losing all data on the watch, or actually all my account data, including al past workouts etc.? That would be so sad

  • All what was already synced, remains in your Garmin Connect account untouched.

  • Hi! I have exactly the same problem since yesterday‘s update. What was the solution for you?

  • Sorry for the late reply. I ended up contacting their support. That person also couldn't see anything abnormal that would have such an affect on the calories, after I had already updated any personal data I could find. They said to wait it out 1 more day and otherwise offered to have my watch sent out for a check, since the calorie count is really done in the watch itself.
Miraculously it started going back to normal soon after. Before it happened I hadn't worn my watch outside of workouts much for a while. I started wearing it all day again after, in hopes of recalibrating it or something, and after 1 or 2 weeks it went back to normal.
So can't give you a specific cure other than to update/resave all your personal data input (weight, max heart rate etc.), where it for a couple days and otherwise contact them (especially, if it's still within waranty time).
