Dakota 20 won't power up

Dakota 20 not powering up

Got my 20 in the spring and it worked fine on four or five hikes over a couple months, then just like the other posts, nothing. Screen would show "Garmin" then shut down. Tried batteries, taking out maps microSD, reloading, nothing worked. Ended up exchanging it, same problem on the first day of a week long wilderness trip. Thank goodness for map and compass! Now see a 2 pt "solution" here, but don't know why Garmin hasn't eliminated the issue. Will try it but am concerned about long term reliability. Anyone have a comment on that?

After my Dakota 20 has been working more or less o.k. for a year now, this weekend it broke down completely. If I try to turn it on, nothing happens - no notification, no screen which later fades, NOTHING. And my computer won't recognize it any more, so I can't update the software or check for corrupt GPX files. I tried everything - pressing the button for a 30 seconds and then plugging it into the USB, still nothing.

I will be sending the device in to Garmin today, but reading this thread, this seems to be quite an issue for the Dakota. Would be very annoying if this happened again once the warranty time is over...

Fade Out at Power On

(RESUELTO) En mi caso tengo un Dakota 20 y este luego de dos semanas de poco uso comenzó con problemas al iniciar. Pude corregir el problema instalando un nuevo beta firmware. El archivo en cuestión es: Dakota_382Beta.exe y lo pude descargar desde el sitio oficial. Espero les sea útil. :)

(SOLVED) In my case I have a 20 Dakota and this after two weeks of little use began with problems starting. Can correct the problem by installing a new beta firmware. The file in question is: Dakota_382Beta.exe and I could download from the official site. I hope you find it useful.

I just bought my Dakota20, having same problem, read through the tread, seems Webupdater work for some and unfortunately doesn't work for me given the PC not able to detact the unit at all. For that case, may I know if the only solution is sending back? I bought from online store, that might cause some problem for me. Any other way??

Dakota 20 garmin problem

bought oct 2009 new with topo maps ,first it lost all maps and way points .So had to send to garmin to be reloaded ect.Then the next week not only lost again but now wont load maps or even respond when plugged into computer .Even holding down on button and top left of screen is no good!!!!.They say its toasted .I saw another post of same problem i think that it was a bad batch.2 years for 600 buck i dont think so :mad::mad::mad::mad:::

My Dakota 20 would not power up today. I tried suggestions made earlier. No joy. The difference in my problem seems the only way to power down is to pull the batteries out and unplug. I have tried all of the listed ways to try and fix but all I get is the Garmin screen and nothing else. Seems that once it has power it is locked up. any other ideas?
