nuvi 1490t Problems

When I use the trip log it will work for a bit then it starts to just leave a straight line. When I try to clear the trip log most times I can not. I have to hold the off button for a good 10 seconds to get it to clear. When the trip log is not working the ecoRoute is way off also. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if anyone knows how I can fix this. I tryed to get the place where I bought it to help but not much luck there. Last time I buy from them.

    1490T Flashing Garmin Name

I too have a Garmin 1490T - working fine, then one day , powers up and only gets to the garmin name screen. It is a steady screen, not flashing but no matter how i power on/off it stops there. tried resetting based on web sites instructions no fix yet. seeking help.

Only had this 60 days or so, just long enought not to be able to return it.

    :)

Also have the Garmin flashing name infinite loop problem. (1490T) Resets every 4
seconds or so. No way to reset. Comp. can't recognize it because it never
gets to desktop. Waiting on reply from cust. support. To late to send back to vendor. Not looking forward to getting another that does the same thing.

  • I am having a problem with my 1490T Nuvi. I cannot get it to turn on. It is merely flashing the Garmin name at me and turning on and off. I've used it very successfully for 6 months and have kept the software updated. I cannot get it to turn on for more than 3 seconds.

    Hi all.
    I'm hving the same problem.
    Any idea?
    Tks

    Hi,
I've only just got my Garmin (Xmas present), but had a similar problem. In the end I had to do a hard reboot. Press and hold bottom right corner, when switching on, until asked if you want to clear data (or something similar) all data entered by owner (Favourites, home setting, eco settings etc) will then be cleared and the sat nav will reboot.

I think the problem was caused by trying to load too many favourites (4,000+ from a csv file). I wanted to be able to view certain locations when scrolled out past the 200ft limit (which can be done with favourites, but not POIs) and didn't realise there was a 1,000 limit. I'm still trying to find a way of being able to view certain (or selected) POI icons at a zoom greater than 200ft. Does anyone know how this can be done? Does anyone know why Garmin won't allow some of the built in POIs to be 'turned off'? even at the 50ft zoom in a city centre area it is not always possible to see each individual icon.

    1490 is underpowered

It is by far, the worst GPS I've owned. I've come close to throwing it out the window but I'm not willing to spend another $200. The 1490T is underpowered with a slow processor and probably lacks internal memory used for processing. What drives me nuts is it's automatic zoom. After I press + or - to zoom in or zoom out, it will do it's own thing like it's possessed. It takes almost 10 minutes to boot up and synch with the satellites and another minute to get the traffic. I've had numerous issues such as lock ups. My favorite is the advertizements that appear on the screen for Red Lobster and hotels. Garmin spent their time designing advertisments but could give it a processor that can do it's job. I have my eye on the 2555lmt but I'll wait to read the reviews before I buy.

I've contacted Garmin Support for the same issue, no help at all. I've updated my software to 4.2, which fixed the Micro SDHC card issue according to the support. I've tried 3 different brands, and none of them are working, here are the MicroSDHC I've tried:

    AData Class6 8GB
    Patriot Class4 8GB
    SanDisk Class2 8GB

None of them are working on my 1490T, so either can't use 8GB or can't be SDHC.

I'm using the Kingston 8GB micro SDHC and it works fine. All my custom POI's, jpeg's are loaded on my card.
    Needs to be formatted FAT32
