Why do Zwift rides/activities not count towards Garmin challenges?

I have been increasing my workouts through Zwift and now that I’m doing 3-4 workouts a week, I thought it would be good to knock out some fitness challenges to get credit for the work I’m putting in. I was disappointed to see that Garmin will allow the workouts to show up in my feed but don’t give credit towards the challenges I’m working on.

Is this purely a flex by Garmin to force people to stay inside their ecosystem?

    Probably. Garmin got their own platform for virtual rides that count towards the challenges.

    It may be indeed one of the reasons. Another one, and on my mind the primary one, is to guarantee a certain level of fairness, and to only account for activities done in conditions that they have control over. Not all 3rd party apps or devices work in the same way, so in order to keep the same conditions for all users, limiting the activities to Garmin devices and apps makes sense.

  • I tend to go with the idea that Connect is provided for free (ok - it's built into the hardware cost) so it seems reasonable that some features are reserved to Garmin devices only. 

  • The weird thing to me is that when tacx was working with Zwift, they worked perfectly fine, and then when Zwift partnered with wahoo, the Zwift rides stopped going towards Garmin goals. This was
