Compatible Watch not appearing on apps.garmin.com

Hi there, I have contacted the general contact support and they recommended I need to use this channel. I have created a watch face, and uploaded it to the website https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/517bca45-7bc5-48f2-8980-b6dae3135c58

When I try to download it from the website to install on my watch, I get the following error message:

"You need to have a compatible device in your account before sending content to it. You can add a device to your account using Garmin Express software on your computer, or using the Garmin Connect Mobile app (if your phone and device are supported)."

I have added my watch using by the Garmin Connect Mobile app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and using the Garmin Express software on my Windows 11 PC.

I still get the same error message.

When I try to search for the watch face in the Garmin Connect IQ app I cannot find the watch face. When I search my developer ID on the Garmin Connect IQ app I cannot find any of my watch faces.

I have reviewed this - https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=4L1cbwXjP037HNjSlEeTV9 - and my watch IS paired with my phone. My watch is an Instinct 2 Solar.

How can I add my watch so that I can download my watch face, and do not get the above error?

  • I don't know how to determine it (if you don't already know) which part number is your watch... so let's try this way: in which country you purchased it? What languages that don't use latin based alphabet does it support (please list all Asian languages)?

Typical. They have no idea... Either they don't know what is CIQ and just out of fear they throw these tickets away, or maybe they are specifically told by their managers.

  • I bought it in Australia via Facebook,  it supports Bahasa, Vietnamese, Malay, Inu and English.

  • then as FlowState guessed, it's an APAC version, that is usually behind the world-wide version. If you have the latest firmware (19.10 according to forums.garmin.com/.../instinct-solar) (there's no possible Software Update available), then go back to Garmin Customer Support and ask them to release the latest version to APAC.

Until then what you can try is to check in your watch: Menu > System > About > ans go down to see which "CIQ" version it supports, and then change the minApiLevel in your app's manifest.xml to something lower or equal to that version, rebuild and upload to the store, and try again.

  • Thanks so much for this. The watch has CIQ: 3.4.4 and the minAPILevel in the manifest.xml is 3.4.0 . Weird. I see some other people are having a similar issue (via searching this forum).

  • Thank you, I saw in my other post that FlowState had mentioned some things also. I've updated the minApiLevel, rebuilt and re-uploaded and I can now download. Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that not only are APAC devices typically configured to be behind their WW counterparts, they're often configured to be behind the actual irl APAC devices.

In the past, really old APAC devices would sometimes be permanently behind their WW counterparts, but it seems that more recently, APAC devices are actually up-to-date with their WW counterparts, but the device config hasn't been updated to reflect that (yet).

In that case, Garmin really has to update the device configuration. Might be worth posting a bug report.

  • The answer is pretty much what flocsy and FlowState said. Issue with my watch being APAC and needing to drop minApiVersion to 3.2.0.
