Data Went Away

I went for a ride today. While I was riding my Garmin shut off; so I turned it back on. When I returned home I plugged it in to my computer, and then loaded it in to the Garmin training center. My whole ride was there, except for a small gap (depicted by a short straight line) for the interval where the device had been shut off.

OK - here's the weird part!

This evening I uploaded to Garmin Connect; and I noticed the entire first lap was missing. I thought it was rather odd, so I went back to the Training Center to check it out, and the first lap was missing there too! I know with certainty it was there when I first uploaded. The device had been left plugged in to the computer all day, but I did not do anything with it, and there is no way I (for instance) deleted the lap from the device.

In hundreds of rides I have never seen this before...

Does anyone have a clue what might have happened?
  • Is Training Center still showing the correct ride?

Data Went Away - Again, and Again and Again :-(

    Steve,

Training Center was showing the correct data when I first uploaded it from the device - that's the screenshot I took that I attached to this thread. I just loaded Training Center again - the data is gone. Go figure!

    More thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Data Went Away...

Well - it looks like the thread is dead i.e. no further replies, no input, I am now writing to myself. :(

I did send an eMail off to Garmin support. Hopefully they will eventually get back to me.

Thanks to those who replied (especially Steve) and showed an interest. :)

If I get some resolution I will post back, as I see a number of folks have been reading this thread, so there may be a few other folks that are either interested in the topic or have actually experienced it and are also looking for a fix.

Happy Sunday - got out and ride, run, have fun...
  • The final suggestion I can offer is to perform a non-volatile memory erase reset.

Plug the device into the computer and delete (emptying the trash) the file UserProfile.tcx in the Profile directory. Immediately after unmounting turn on the device while pressing and holding the Mode key. You should be given an option to erase all user data. You can select yes here to reset everything.

After the reset you will have to go back and re-enter all your user and system prefs on the device. This has always been a last resort action for me, but I have been able to have many many months of error-free use out of it.

Data Went Away - One More Time...

I just saw a posting where this happened to someone else; feels better seeing it's not just me. Anyway - the nice folks at Garmin Support gave me the following instructions for updating the software on the Edge 305 itself - so I thought I'd add back to this post as well.

To update your unit's software, please follow the instruction's below.

    1. Please go to the WebUpdater webpage by clicking on the following
    link: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=931.

    2. You will see a link labeled Download, please click on it.

    3. You will be asked if you want to Run or Save the file, please click
    Run.

    4. After the file downloads, you may receive a security warning; if you
    do, please click Run.

    5. Please select your setup language and click Next (the following
instructions are based on the English selection).

    6. You will see a new window; please click Next.

    7. A license agreement will appear; please agree to the terms and then
    click Next.

    8. You will see the destination folder, please click Next.

    9. Click Install; the WebUpdater installation will begin.

    10. After the installation, please ensure that there is a checkmark next
to Yes, I want to launch WebUpdater now and then click Finish.

    11. The WebUpdater program will launch - again, please ensure that your
unit is connected to the computer and turned on.

    12. Click Next; you will then be prompted to select your GPS. Please
select USB Device and then click Next.

    13. A new window will appear with information about the update for your
    unit, please click Next.

    14. A new license agreement will appear, please click that you agree and
    then click Next.

    15. The unit's internal operating system/software (sometimes called
    "firmware") will then be updated.

    16. Once the download is complete, please click Finish.

    17. Please feel free to disconnect the unit; it is ready to use.

    Happy Labor Day :)
