When I check the version of the ant agent it tells me that it is 2.2.5.

I have tried to reload on all three of my Vista pc's but still none are working :(

Please help as I need to look at my latest runs to motivate me to do more:rolleyes:

    Angry customer

    :mad::mad:

@MOTHER3251: Amen. I also wish I could get my money and time back. With my money back, at least I could invest it in a product that actually worked.

@Garmin: It has been five days since my last post, two additional customers have posted with the same problem--and you have not had a single response in this thread. Worse yet, when you go to the ANT download page there is no notice of issue identified in this thread you continue to distribute v2.2.5. Are you kidding me, you are propagating a product that on this thread you have already admitted does not work?!? I consider that irresponsible, unethical, and deceptive business practice.

    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsDetails.jsp?id=3741

Boo Hiss...you need to 1) stop distributing a faulty product and 2) fix the software so that users aren't left hanging with a useless product that can't transfer data to the computer.

Look for me here next weekend seeking some resolution to this issue...

had the same issues after upgrading but even after going back to v2.2.1 transfers from my 310XT fail everytime. Deleting and reinstalling several more times but no luck :mad::mad:
  • why not e-mail?

I've been struggling with this data transfer issue for almost a month now, including several e-mails to tech support. No follow-up with an e-mail back announcing a fix to the problem. I've registered my product online (as have most of you, I'm sure)...why not send one big e-mail out to everyone announcing the temporary (and hopefully soon-to-be-released permanent) fix? Glad I went to Garmin Connect and happened to read the little sidebar notice. Very very poor customer service on this one.

    Is my data lost?

I just bought my 405cx yesterday. Went for a run, uploaded to Garmin Connect. No problem. Pretty neat actually.

But today, I went for another run, then went to upload and saw the notice to update to ANT 2.5. I did that, then ANT downloaded the data from my watch. The watched beeped and said "transfer complete." That's when I discovered this problem with uploading to Garmin Connect.

I want to uninstall 2.5 as everyone else is trying on this thread. But what about the data that was pulled from my watch today? I had my watch set to delete after download, so its gone from there.

I'd hate to lose this information. Any ideas whether I can save my running data before I uninstall? Is it sittingin a file I can save then upload with the old version?

Also hoping data are not lost

@steppu: I feel your pain and share your frustration.

@skifast12: I also registered my Forerunner 405CX. If I recall correctly, including one's email address is part of the registration process. Thus, it would have been possible for Garmin to contact the user base to inform them of the issue. I completely agree that this is "very very poor customer service"; I would go so far as to characterize it as negligent. I am interested to hear that your attempts to address the issue through tech support have been fruitless. I also submitted a ticket and have heard nothing. Based on my experiences with this "ANT hill" issue, I will be strongly encouraging my GIS colleagues in the anthropology and archaeology community to purchase products from another company.

@jhardierjr: I am presently collecting data in Peru, and it will be very costly and complicated to replicate my experiments. I am continuing on with work under the assumption (more accurately hope) that new data will not be lost due to the ANT transfer failure. I share your concerns. Based on my review of data summaries reported on the watch, I believe that new data are not being lost. I anticipate that once Garmin steps up to the plate and takes care of this major and wholly fundamental bungle, it will be possible to transfer observations to the computer. However, given Garmin's complete lack of responsiveness it is hard to confirm or reject one's assumptions.

See you all here next weekend. Let us all hope that Garmin does the right thing and takes care of this issue ASAP. We all know that we deserve a substantial refund of time and money--don't we Garmin?

    I got it to work

Well, for what it is worth, I was able to get it working again. I'm going to post what I did here in case it is of help to anyone else.

Here are the steps I took on my Windows Vista machine:

    1) I right clicked on the ANT icon on the taskbar and selected Exit, which closed the program.

    2) I unplugged the ANT stick

    3) I went to Control Panel and uninstalled the ANT 2.5 program

    4) I rebooted the computer

    5) I went to the link provided at the start of this thread, downloaded the ANT 2.2.1 program and installed it. Here is the link:

    http://www8.garmin.com/software/GarminANTAgent_221.exe

    6) I moved the watch away from the computer, then plugged the ANT stick back in

    7) I took the watch outside and started and stopped the timer to create a new 30 second record.

    8) I brought the watch in next to the computer. ANT recognized the watch, downloaded the short record, then successfully uploaded both the new record and the one I had "lost" this morning to Garmin Connect.

    9) I right clicked again on the ANT icon on the taskbar, this time selecting "software update settings". I unchecked the box that says "automatically check for updates." No way am I updating this program again until Garmin figures out the problem.

So, I'm relieved to at least be working again and I hope others can resolve too. N8Craig, it sounds like you've got important work tied up so I hope the best for you.

I am surprised I had to lose several hours trying to fix this on an expensive new watch when Garmin knew of the problem weeks ago. I suppose if they don't resolve soon, word will spread to forums like Runner's World, Consumer Reports, etc. so that others can be warned.

As for me, I'm still happy with my new watch. I just don't want to waste any more time.

One last point about my data. I figured out where ANT stores the data files. It was located in C:/users/ME/appdata/roaming/garmin/history. I copied them to a backup file before I uninstalled ANT 2.5, but it turns out that wasn't necessary. The logs from my history were not deleted during the uninstall. And when ANT 2.2.1 was reloaded, it had no problem recognizing and uploading the data to Garmin Connect.

    Best of luck to everyone!

I have a FR405, an am also unable to upload recent activities.

The lack of coordinated response to this (now widely experienced) issue is shocking. In the middle of training for my first marathon, and I can't get to see the data that I bought the unit for in the first place.

For info, I was using 2.1.7 and experienced problems - having read the threads on here I elected to upgrade to 2.2.1 - which has not solved the problem. It states 'Connect Failed due to Server Error' - which is at least more info than the previous version was telling me.

Incidentally, the info seems to transfer perfectly well to the Training Centre software, however as this sports a GUI which would be more at home in a low-cost third rate piece of software i choose not to use it often.

    Questions.

    1. When are Garmin going to resolve these problems.
    2. When are they going to acknowledge this so-far poor customer service - I'm not interested in calling customer support - it's 2009!! get a bold message up on the home page telling us exactly what you're doing about this.
    3. While I'm ranting, when are you going to update Training Centre to look as if it resembles something that we'd pay for - at present it's dowdy, has no google map support and generally lacks style. Perhaps if this was updated I'd not feel so angry that I could at least access my data locally while you solve any transfer problems you experience.

It's Monday morning in the UK, 01:46. I expect an answer in this thread, from an administrator by the same time tomorrow. Not too much to ask for the money I paid?

    In a bit.

Users providing better support than Garmin

@jhardiejr: Thank you very much for your detailed description (it was more thorough than anything Garmin has supplied thus far). I followed the procedures you outlined, but unfortunately they did not work for me. I'm pleased that they worked for you, and I applaud your taking the time to share what worked for you.;)

General note: In addition to uninstalling both ANT and the USB drivers via "Add or Remove Programs" I also attempted to completely uninstall ANT via System/Hardware/Device Manager/USB devices/right click on ANT and uninstall. Oddly, despite trying to completely wipe the ANT infestation from my system it remains lurking in the system tray in its useless 2.2.5 state! Isn't it one of the characteristics of malware/virus/worm software, that a user can't uninstall a program from their system? So Garmin, event though I've been attacking the ANT infestation from numerous angles--I can't get your defective product wiped from my computer.

I also followed the instructions posted by @jhardiejr, and would also like to say thanks.

my problem seems certainly to be that having never updated to 2.2.5 i'm simply unable to transfer the data to Garmin. The transfer from unit to computer seems to be fine, and the transfer from me to Garmin actually starts, however it fails after a couple of minutes.

Which in essence means the problem isn't simply a bug ridden release of 2.2.5, but also something to do with Garmin abilty to receive data.
  • @n8craig, have you rebooted your system after the uninstall?
