Other Tracking Software Options

I hate to get on here and have my first post be bashing but GC doesn't really work for me. I have been using MB for the last 2 1/2 yrs and for the most part had all the features that I looked for. It seems that everything I try to do in GC the feature is not there. It doesn't help much that if the feature was there only 30% if my rides are.

So, what other viable options are out there for activity tracking software for the PC?

I find it hard to believe they released a version so stripped down on features from MB, and stopped allowing uploads to MB.

Just been looking at RunSaturday.com Why on earth are we bothering with Garmin Connect?

    I'm not anymore!! No point.

The combination of sporttracks, runsaturday and bikeroutetoaster does everything for me!

I used MB and now GC as an online backup only. And as for Garmin Trainining Center...

When the demise of MB was announced, I downloaded SportTracks. As others have said it is not too intuitive, but if you download many of the plugins for it, it does have a massive amount of features. I took my Training Center backup TCX file which is 318mb and spans from 2005 to now, and Sport TRacks sucked it in. Neat part is if you have some other device you use, you can merge the data. I have a Foreruner 205 and a Suunto t6 and SportTracks merges their data flawlessly.

I have not figured out how to combine activities yet, and I have not figured out how to save the SportTracks database in some format that Excel or Access can get to. It will output GPX files but of course those are useless on the current iteration of GC.

  • But you can then upload the gpx files to RunSaturday.com then export from there in .tcx if you want to.

You can use the "Apply Routes" plugin to combine two activities in SportTracks. You can export activities as "fitlog" files and then use TCX Converter to convert the "fitlog" file to a TCX history file which can then be uploaded to GC.
