Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.
I notice that from today, my Garmin Connect account has a "Gear" section that allows you to set up all your equipment - shoes, bikes, other - however, there is no link yet to activities. When setting up you can allocate an activity to gear but that means all running will go to one pair or shoes or all cycling to one bike. Assume more is on the way.
I entered my three bikes, but can only assign one of them to all Cycling. Need to be able to toggle between them like you can on the Garmin Edge. Also it prompts you for "Maximum Distance" -- no explanation of what this means -- Max distance I have traveled, or want to travel? I log my Odometer readings on each bike, so I entered the Odo of my brand new Boardman, 328 miles. Now the Gear widget displays "0% of 328" for that bike. Confused.
When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

It's the distance you want to travel
I'm not a cyclist, but I think that feature is meant for running shoes, as most shoes wear out by 300-500 miles and it's generally a good idea to track how much you've run in them so you know when their life-span is coming to an end and you need to replace them.
