New Activity Type??

Hi there

How do you add a new activity Type? I want the following activity types:

Tennis
  • All Weather Court
  • Shale
  • Grass
  • Other

Is this possible?

Cheers

No, I think you understand trail. Running through the forest without a path might be called bushwhacking. I don't do orienteering, so I'm not familiar with the term "forest running."

Well, maybe there is no much better word than trail running (??), but the activity orienteering would at least be good.

Offroad pretty much covers the bases doesn't it?

Another vote for orienteering as activity type!

The output from the GPS-clock is very useful when analyzing the result after an orienteering training or competition. We are several persons that exchange output files to compare and discuss how well we performed. If you choose Forerunner 305 or 405 is just a matter of taste.

    Activity Type

My comment is that it should not be too hard at all to make this an editable field. IF it is used logically by something else, then Garmin should be able to have the logic hinge on the Category of activity and not the activity name itself. For example, "Cycling" could be the category name that any calculation logic would use; but within that category, there could be an infinite number of user-defined sub-categories that are used as names only, not logical operators. For example, jogging, running. . .whatever.

I am not a programmer, but that seems like it is not too hard to do.

Unlike client side software, GC is a web app in-which activities are shared and searched via Explorer. To organize all activities for search, GC has a rigid set of Activity Types that describes most activities.

Until we offer another means to categorize or associate your activities, I suggest including a descriptive text in the activity name or description. You can then search on this text. I know it's not a perfect solution, but it can be helpful.

I hope you are going to support other browsers other than Explorer?

Explorer is the name of the part of the website that searches the shared/public activities.

    Internet Explorer is the browser.

    From the FAQ:

Garmin Connect supports official releases of Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 3+ and Safari 3.1+. While the site may work with beta versions of these browsers, we do not test for these versions until they are officially released.

The Garmin Connect website supports Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS X operating systems (Safari 3.1+ is the supported browser for Mac users).

  • thank you for clearing that up April.

I could for-see features being unavailable like MB with non IE browsers.

This is the first time I have heard this part of connect referred to as explorer, are there any more pet names for parts of connect, I'm sure we could all think of a few!

Explore is the name of the tab you click to get to the "Explore" portion of Connect.
