No longer able to have two training plans simultaneously? cycling & running?

Did something recently change?  I used to have two training plans running simultaneously, cycling 3 days + running 3 days.  I'm trying to start up a new plan and it's only allowing me one?  I have to quit cycling to add the running and vice versa.  I can't be the only multisport athlete...

  • I have tried every possible combination it's no longer possible from my version of the web or Android app

  • Are you sure none of your plans is using the option "Train for an Event"? Respectively, I suppose all the following new features would have the same effect, and only the original adaptive Coach Plans, and Self-Guided plans can be used simultaneously.

    • Train for an Event
    • Achieve a Milestone
    • Improve Fitness
    • Gain Strength

As I wrote, as a workaround, you can select a Triathlon plan with an Event goal (and no other plan simultaneously), and you will receive tailored workouts for both running and cycling

  • Hi, I would like to have a run plan and the strength plan together and it is not possible :/ it is sad, I was excited when they added strength plans, but I don't want to lose the running plan.

  • Same. I was so excited about the new strength training plan feature and then noticed that it wants me to quit my running plan in order to start a new one. Very disappointing Frowning2️ Came on here to see if there’s a workaround to make it work somehow.

  • I suppose all the following new features would have the same effect, and only the original adaptive Coach Plans, and Self-Guided plans can be used simultaneously.

    For me:

    - In the Connect website, the new Garmin coach plans are available by default (under the Train for Event, Achieve a Milestone, Improve Fitness, and Gain Strength categories). If I click the Browse All Plans button, I can see the old plans: self-guided plans and the "old" Garmin Coach plans (in this case, you select an actual human coach, such as Jeff Galloway).

    - In the Connect app, only the new Garmin Coach plans are available (under the categories mentioned above).

To me this is a strong sign that the old plans are deprecated, since the majority of Connect users will use the app and not the website.

Regardless of what type of plan I initially set up, if I try to select a 2nd plan, I'm prompted to quit the 1st plan.

I have a Forerunner 955 (although older devices are also registered to my account).

EDIT: there actually is a way to use more than one of the original plans at the same time, but it's a bit of a workaround. (The UI has clearly been changed to prevent doing this normally.)

  • I did find a way to use two (or more) of the old plans at the same time, as long as only one of them is an adaptive plan. Unfortunately this does not work with the new Garmin Coach plans (as seen in the Connect app and by default in the website), only the old plans (as seen when you press Browse All Plans in the website.)

TL;DR you need to use the website and open the Connect training page in multiple tabs, then start (but not finish) the process of setting up each plan in each tab. Once you've done that for every plan you want to join, you can finish the setup for all plans

    --

    1) Open the Connect training plan page in multiple tabs (one tab for each plan you need to use): https://connect.garmin.com/modern/training-plan

In each tab, follow steps 2 and 3:

    2) Click Find a Plan > Browse All Plans

    3) Select an old plan, start the set up, but do not finish it. If it's an old Garmin Coach adaptive plan, select Set Up Plan but do *not* finish the setup process (by answering all the questions and pressing Create Plan). If it's a self-guided plan, do not press Schedule.

After finishing step 3 for all tabs, in each tab:

    4) Finish the plan setup. For adaptive plans, go through the entire set up process and press Create Plan. For self-guided plans, press Schedule.

I tried to do this with the new Garmin Coach plans, and it didn't work. For example, if you open an old plan and new plan in 2 tabs, and finish setting up the new plan first, then when you set up the old plan, the new plan will be silently removed. If you try to do it the other way around, you will be unable to finish setting up the new plan. Too bad.

This trick only works with at most one adaptive plan. Seems that you can have any number of self-guided plans, though.

  • Brilliant, just did it and it worked for the adaptive biking and running plan.  Had both set up in separate tabs and then selected set up plan one after the other in separate tabs.  Just checked my phone and they are both on the calendar.  Appreciate the tip, hopefully Garmin doesn't break this hack.

  • Thank you, it works! :) I am really happy
