Bug / Feature request: being able to add a new course to Garmin Edge during an activity

Dear Garmin developpers

(I also posted this in the "new ideas" link)

The problem

  • Recently I went on my bike to ride a navigated route (course)
  • I created a course with Garmin Connect and uploaded/synched to my Garmin Edge 1040 Solar
  • I started the activity. Halfway, I discovered I transferred the wrong route to my Garmin (my own mistake)
  • So I stopped and used my phone to create the right route, assuming I could load my new route on the fly to my Garmin Edge and get the right navigation instructions
  • I tried to upload the course to my Garmin Edge, but I could not sync and start a new course during an activity???
  • This seems unnecessary and annoying, because I is perfectly possible on the Garmin Edge to change navigation instructions during an activity, for example I can navigate back to start the most direct way or I can fill in an address as destination

The solution

  • Please eliminate the obstruction to synch and start new courses to Garmin Edge during an activity, there seems no good reason why this is blocked and I think this would be useful for a lot of cyclists and runners
  • For example when you get tired during a course or when a certain road is blocked and you want to manually create a new course

Kind regards!

Most of the newer Garmin watches in the Wearables and Running category have the Resume Later feature. This will allow the user to send a course to the watch without the need to stop and save the current activity. I've done this on a few occasions on my Epix (Gen 2).

Unfortunately, it's not on the Edge devices. This has been mentioned in a few threads on the cycling section of the forums - Garmin please add "Resume later" to save options in activity

As for getting your request heard by Garmin, since it's not a bug, rather a feature request, suggest submitting your request using the Share Ideas form. Not sure if that's what you meant by "new ideas" link.
