Garmin please add "Resume later" to save options in activity

Dear Garmin,

Please consider adding to EDGE devices option to "Resume later" activity. It is really helpful on Fenix devices if need to sync your device during activity w Garmin Connect Mobile.
Let assume that I am during long ride with active activity and need to plan new course on my phone. After that I would like to have this new course on my device so I need to sync it. Garmin devices are not able to sync during activity but are able to do this when activity is in "Resume later" state. Unfortunately this option is missed on EDGE devices.

Best regards
Arek

  • Did you try to press stop the activity timer, but do not save the record, select to start again after synchronization is complete

  • Did you try this before? It is not possible to synchronize device when activity is paused (pressed button with triangle). It is only possible when you save activity.

  • +1 on this - I would like to be able to change courses (as was possible with my 705 and 810) or access a new course from the Komoot IQ app while maintaining the current GPS track recording. Sometimes plans change, but I want a consistent track of the day's riding.

With the 1030+, I have to stop the activity, save it, change the course, start a new activity, complete that, upload both, stitch them together with external tools and import the combined track to Connect. Bit of a faff really.

I thought the track memory was distinct from the course memory - why are they now entangled?

  • To change a course during a running activity (end and load another) is possible - as long as the course is stored on your Edge!

  • Yes but only if you doing this on EDGE device. You know how inconvenient it is on small screen device or non touchscreen devices (eg. 530). It is much easier to create/update course on mobile phone using Garmin Connect Mobile and transfer new/modified course to EDGE but it is not possible on EDGE devices during active activity.

Oposite to this on Fenix device you can pause activity, choose "Resume later" and since then syncing with Garmin Connect Mobile is possible. After syncing you can resume activity and good to go - have made new course on mobile phone and transferred to device and your activity is not broken.

  • Hello, you can import gpx to edge1030+ witout stop activity via

gimporter widget - Import FIT/GPX from Android

    works perfectly.

  • Yes I know. There are more widgets for this but why I need to use widgets? Risking unstability of device etc. using third party software (by the way I am using iOS not Android).

It is so obvious functionality in real life. It is standard in biggest Garmin competitor (Wa...) producing bike devices. It would be really nice to have in our devices out of the box.

  • I'll extend 's excellent information with:

You have to use the *gimporter widget* version of gimporter in order to sync a gpx to a device while an activity is in progress. The *gimporter Connect IQ app*, like every other Connect IQ app, cannot be started while an activity is in progress, but the widget is added to the pull down widget list that is accessible all the time.

Thanks for the link - it's good that there is at least a workaround since the stock Garmin software doesn't support sync or starting apps whilst an activity is in progress.

  • There's also the GRouteLoader widget which is much more flexible as you can download courses from GExporter, Connect & RwGPS as well as POI's from SendPoints

  • This one I tested. It is very good but still far from easy comparing to use Garmin Connect Mobile->Create course->Sync.
