What can cause a SO erratic heart rate value from the same HRM Pro+

Hi everybody.

Just to start with the right context, the subject is about a Standard FTP Test of 90min on Zwift, which have been transferred to Garmin Connect (GC).

HRM data on Zwift are perfect. Zwift data transferred to Garmin are perfect.

But Garmin HR in the health stats are wrongs by 60bpm.

I've been having some issues with many metrics on my new Epix Gen 2 Watch lately.

Being patient paid off. But still, not all accurate.

Watch was too new so I had to wait until I have more data to get a VO2Max, HRV (Which is Unbalanced right now because of those missing or inaccurate heart rate data).

It creates doubt about my resting heart rate, stress history, Acute load is based on Anaerobic, High and Low Aerobic data. Are they good ?

Coming from a Fenix 5X, I had less information to manage my health and fitness data.

I love my Epix but my FTP was 180 last week.

I'm working on getting to 225 this week, 180 was to low (I was vacationing on my bike, like my wife say).

Here on the picture you will see that I did a 90min, Standard FTP test (Not a Ramp Test).

In Zwift, I get a 5min at 225W making my heart rate go up to 157bpm.

When I start the second stage at 225W for 20min, my HR goes to 160bpm.

The same HRM Pro+ is sending HRM Bluetooth signal to my Zwift App and Zwift get it right.

Garmin record (transfer from Zwift) the same data (the right data) and even create a better (more detailed) graph of that same 157-160bpm.

But when I go to the Health Stats/Heart Rate, it records 87 and 104bpm.

Those Health Stats/Heart Rate data are the one Garmin use to give me my metrics, according to my watch's metrics.

It has a direct impact on all my metrics. Even my fitness age have increased by 6 years.

Never happened with my Fenix 5X.

So, guys.

I need your lights on that one.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Sorry for the picture, cannot have a better clarity.

  • The sequence of pushing buttons to get to what you want us to do is longer than just turning the watch off, which is a one push holding button.

Your way, my way, Still annoying to have to do that.

And I'm not talking about forgetting to save HRM Pro+ data to GC before taking it off and then having to put it back on to be able to save (sync data) with my iPhone.

All this should be done transparently by prioritizing the HRM Pro+, whenever it is connected to the watch.

    Easy.

  • And by the way.

I was going to send my watch back.

Thinking my watch had a problem.

But my wife and I have the same watch.

Hers is white and mine is black.

Same Epix Gen 2 bought at the same time.

She told me yesterday  that she doesn't have the same problem as I.

Then I showed her that in the last Zwift training and all others before, her HR on Zwift was around 175bpm and for the same time, same WO, it was at 175bpm under the Activity sent from Zwift to Garmin but same problem when we look at the Health Stats / Heart Rate All day data. It was at 85 to 95bpm.

And she was wearing the same Garmin HRM Pro+ that I bought her. Not another brand of HRM, Garmin's.

And again, all the nice messages that my watch or GC display are based on the All Day HR Data (85 to 95bpm) that GC cumulate during the day (independently of the rate at which it collect the data, trend should be something that flattens the data but at something close to 175bpm, not 95bpm).

So, difference of accuracy between  wrist and Strapped HRM could be les than 10bpm but not 70bpm.

Me and my wife have both a Wahoo Kickr V5, both have a road bike, both have an Apple TV 4K 128Gb, she uses an IPad and I use an IPhone for the Zwift companion during a workout, we both have a HRM Pro+ and we both have more than 75bpm difference between what the HRM Pro+ send to Zwift and the wrist HR during an activity.

She also have peaks of 235bpm on some graphics in GC, depending if we select a 1d, 1w, 1m or 1y graph.
