I did notice there was a putter in the retired list when I opened it this morning. But I didn't put it there. Also, there is a full listing of golf clubs in the golf in the golf club list which I never put there and I'm pretty sure they weren't there before since I don't play golf anymore.
I noticed that my retired gear is not viewable on Garmin Connect Web, but it does exist on the app.
Good find. I didn't think to check the app but mine is the same, all my missing retired gear is visible there. Must be an issue with the web version only which is a relief since I have over a decade of stuff in there that I still refer to from time to time.
I'll have to take your word for it since it looks like hieroglyphics to me.
But, if I retire one of the golf clubs (that I didn't ever add in the first place) it shows up in the retired tab like it should. And when I go to delete the golf clubs in the Golf Club tab, after the last one is deleted an enter new set will automatically repopulate the Golf Club tab.
Golf clubs seem to already be like that, it's non-standard gear: Golf clubs can't be removed - they all reappear (apparently this is by design). So it's different issue.
2 problems = Equipment do not show items any more when selecting menu in Garmin Connect and retired items do not show retired items on the website.

Also, I'm not sure about your problem #1. I'm seeing Gear items, both current and retired, in the GC Mobile app
However, the viewing of retired gear in Garmin Connect Web is still problematic, as mentioned in the original post. Doesn't look like anyone in this thread has reported this to Garmin Support.
I have contacted Garmin about this. They are going to escalate it to engineering said they would email me when updated.
I'm happy to report Garmin has fixed the issue with retired gear missing on the web app and all my missing gear has returned to being visible.
