Problem with calories

Yesterday on my bike ride (with a power meter + HR), my 840 finds 4914 calories, but on the calorie page (and also after synchronization on my Epix / Physio true up) the number does not match at all.

Before the 9.26 update, I didn't have this problem :

  • Worked as expected again today. Infuriating that it’s inconsistent.

Just a thought - do you use android or iOS? I wonder if it’s the Garmin Connect app. I use iOS

  • Hi again Nick. Yes very frustrating and I was hoping it was finally a fix now. Strange if this is corrected now without a new firmware update? My devices is up to date and so is connect app on iOS device. Let me know again after next ride? I have several long rides the next three days so can’t “afford” to loose data so wil double record as before

  • Might not be firmware issue, might be server- or app-side consolidation of the data streams, which could be fixed by an app or server update. But if we’re both on iOS then maybe not…

I will continue to single record and see what happens. Not training for anything specific right now so it’s only my OCD being triggered!

  • Anyway very sad that Garmin doesn’t come with any news or update…..

  • I’ve recorded 3 more rides this week on the Edge 840 only, and all have correctly logged the calories and intensity minutes in Connect. So as far as I can tell at this point it seems to be working as expected, I can’t see an issue. Will keep reporting back

  • Hi Nick

that’s great and strange as I got this direct from Garmin pr.mail yesterday:

I am sorry the issue has not been resolved yet. Our Fitness segment is also involved in resolving the issue. The issue is impacting multiple devices across both fitness and outdoor devices so there are multiple engineering teams working on the solution.

  • Haha. This is the problem it seems Garmin have with having completely different internal teams owning devices that do the same job.

Very weird that it is working for me at the moment. Intermittent issues are the hardest to resolve, and multiple dev teams likely making it harder still

At least you got some communication

  • It’s totally still completely broken as far as calorie counting when you have two Garmin devices and yes I set the edge to primary.

  • I’ve just had a reply from Garmin about this issue

    Hi Jan,

    Thank you for the email.

The only way to make sure the calories are not taken from the watch is to not wear it during your activities, I understand that can be annoying but I am afraid it is the only way around this.

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know. Alternatively you can search for a solution here: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/

    Kind regards,

basically not at all an ideal solution
