Help: Calorie Counting.

Dear all ,

Something has changed in the last few weeks and i am not sure what.  basically the calorie count on my edge 1040 activities is not transferring to the "main system / connect "   So yesterday, while my ride use around 4000 (yes I rode 200km/125 miles) but my total count for the day was 3000.    What I think is happening is the "system/ connect" is using the calories count base off my heart rate / fenix7 watch which is not recording an activity and not the activity which is recorded by the edge.   The Edge number corresponds with my manual powermeter/time calculation, at this level of endurance heart rate alone is not accurate.

The thing is these numbers are important to me, to help ensure my calorie consumption is near to my needs and i done build deficit that could start to degrade muscle.  (I am also sure people dieting would be frustrated.)

Any thoughts on what to check greatly appreciated

  • It seems that this issue is still valid... I have a FR 255 (se as my PTD) and an Edge 840 and Calories from this one are not counted into the global calories count made by FR.
Also I do have suspect that other metrics (such as Body Battery, Stress, HR, etc) are not properly merged but I am not 100% sure.

@Garmin: do you have any plan to fix it? Thanks!

  • Bringing this up. Same issue today with my brand new edge 1050, my fenix 6x and the app. I completed 100 mile ride where the activity recorded 4000 calories total and for my whole day calories are showing way less. On an average rest day according to my fenix I average about 2400 calories so the total for the day I would expect to see about 6400 calories or so but it seems I will end up with about 700 calories less...

Had the same issue with my 1040. I always use a garmin hrm pro and power for my bikes, usually sram quarq power meters...

  • Check in activity how much was active calories you've burned this activity.
In general summary GC show calories in total but in details you will see these calories divided for active and passive.

  • Correct. But it is off. Seeing it now the day after it underreported the day by about 1000 calories.

Hopefully garmin fixes this issue soon.

  • Still the same issue on Forerunner 965 and ride recorded on Edge 540 (latest stable firmware). Edge shows (correct) calories based on powermeter but Forerunner and Garmin Connect show calories calculated from watch HR.

  • Yes, exactly. But I've found a possible workaround: start a "Bike" activity on Edge and a "Cardio" activity on the FR.
I personally use HRM Dual as my Heart Rate Monitor but you can broadcast HR from FR if you prefer.
At the end of your workout save the Bike activity recorded with Edge and discard the Cardio one recorded with FR.

That's enough for your watch to consider burned calories in your daily count.
