Hi everyone,

Do you know how to turn off "permanent two-step verification"... I call Garmin for help but they didn't succeed ..

I turn on two step verification 2 days ago but i can't use the  RunGap app.

Yes there is already a closed subject but I still have the problem!

Garmin !!!  Don’t close the conversation when the work is not done !

  • and how exactly does the MFA prevents you using the watch?

it doesn't, but it does stop me from using my data the way I like and have grown accustomed to.

However, I do not understand why you don't simply create a new GC account without the MFA,

I guess? but then have 7 years of data orphaned? maybe I'm dense on what's possible having two accounts - but that doesn't seem like the best advice.

  • Hi, I just did the reset, had to connect teh Venu 3 as new watch to Garmin including all snyc etc., and... nothing. Still 2FA permanently enabled.

So no sync and no ECG for me, I am really, really pissed with Garmin!

  • OK, I wrongly understood you are an Apple Watch user, and just bought a fresh Garmin watch. With a 7 years old account it would be a pain, indeed.

In your place I would contact Garmin again, explain that you do not plan using the ECG on te app, and ask them to remove the ECG option and the MFA from your account.

Another possibility could be that the graying-out is done only in JavaScript, and could be unlocked through the DevTools console. If you have some coding skills, check it out. Garmin's coding is often done in this way, and a lot of functionality is accessible after making light changes to the code, through the console.

BTW, I had the non-removable MFA on my account previously too. It was done in the same way when they introduced the BP measuring. However, although the MFA removal was disabled for a long time, now it is possible, and I was able to remove it. So there is a chance it happens in the same way with ECG, sooner or later.

  • Epix pro 2 here and enabled ECG to test it, assuming I could disable it. Nope. Permanent two step enabled and can't be removed. Broke literally everything. Garmin, let us opt out and disable two step, or opt out after testing it so we can fix all our integrations!

  • Damn you just got me so excited until I read the comma after Garmin Rofl

  • For those having issues exporting runs from Garmin Connect, into RunGap, I received the following from RunGap support.

    Hi

Apparently Garmin made some changes to their service which broke the integration with RunGap.

If these changes are a permanent, our developer will need to find a workaround and implement it.

In the meantime...manually importing and exporting workouts

Unfortunately the whole development team (all one of them) is currently beyond reach up in the Himalayas while attempting to reach the top of Mera Peak (6.476 m).

If all goes as planned, he will be back in the office on November 6 and will look into this first thing in the morning.

  • I'm so mad. I absentmindedly followed the steps when I got the ECG notification, and now Garmin and Run Gap won't work. Spoke to a Garmin support person and there's nothing to be done about it, apparently. It's absolutely maddening. Why would it be non-reversible? Fenix 7 Pro wasn't cheap. Should I have gone with Coros?

  • In your place I would contact Garmin again, explain that you do not plan using the ECG on te app, and ask them to remove the ECG option and the MFA from your account.

thanks. I did just that and their reply was "you knew the rules going in" - indeed I did, but replied asking * IF * it's possible. Nothing yet. I'll look at the DevTools route.

I also looked into starting a 2nd account and hoping to merge / transfer accounts. Short answer is there's no option for that either (in bulk or through Garmin settings). You have to export your data and re-upload the individual activities, reclassify, them, etc etc. So,,,, no thanks.

As an iOS user, I enjoyed using some of the apps like Healthfit, etc. It has some fun features. But relying on GC > AH > Healthfit left a lot of data missing (in Healthfit, due to what GC writes to AH) and RunGap was a good bridge. For now, going to have to be content with only using Connect.

  • the answer I received when chatting with Garmin Support;

"Thank you for contacting Garmin.  Since ECG is medical data it requires an additional layer of protection that can not be removed.  This was communicated during the setup process."

Fingers cross the RunGap team comes up with something - but they've had a warning on their app for a long time that 2FA won't work for them.

  • ECG Option popped up on my EPIX Pro watch the other day and it required me to select TFA to use it.  Now I have permanent TFA set up and I seem to have no way to turn it off.  I saw a similar thread from 8-9 months ago that concluded saying it was "resolved" but it is not resolved for my case.

Any ideas on how to turn this off?  On top of it, ECG data isn't uploading so it's a worthless feature that has now created a TFA setting I can't undo.
