Hi everyone,

Do you know how to turn off "permanent two-step verification"... I call Garmin for help but they didn't succeed ..

I turn on two step verification 2 days ago but i can't use the  RunGap app.

Yes there is already a closed subject but I still have the problem!

Garmin !!!  Don’t close the conversation when the work is not done !

Permanent two-step verification - Garmin Connect Web - Mobile Apps & Web - Garmin Forums

  • There is no way to disable ECG 2FA. The reasoning I got from Garmin Support was that this has to do with medical information laws and Garmin being mandated by law to have 2FA on devices collecting ECG data.

Sounds like some [edited] to me, but I just switched to Apple Watch instead. I miss my Garmin, but I went back and forth so many times with support and there is 100% no way to remove it. People who say they got it removed did not have ECG 2FA enabled, only normal 2FA - which can be removed. ECG 2FA cannot be removed at all.

Options are leave Garmin or make a new account.

  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) was turned on automatically for my account. It was right around the time that I installed the ECG app on my Epix 2 Pro. How do I disable it?

  • Add me to the list. Fell for trying out ECG and now broke all my external app workflows (RunGap).

If Garmin Connect actually worked nicely with Apple Health, it wouldn't be as big of a problem. Still, seems to be a big miss you can't turn off 2FA.

  • are you saying this allows you to disable 2FA? Because that would just reset the watch unless it mysteriously triggers something on the backend. When you log in to your Garmin Account (not Connect, but the Account site) - that is where 2FA requirement toggle is permanently on.

I also tried turning on SMS as the 2nd option, thinking I could then disable email - but nope, doesn't work. Email is grayed out and not editable no matter what you do.

  • Thanks for sharing...and this might be why my RunGap also stopped working. I don't have 2FA enabled nor do I have a watch that supports ECG, so curious why mine is no longer working.

  • 2FA will definitely break it. Wish I would've caught that before plowing ahead.

In looking at the RunGap support page they had a note from a couple weeks back that Garmin Connect authentication was an issue (not related to 2FA) but that was fixed in the latest version of the app.

  • This. Thanks for posting because I was in the middle of wishful thinking but it's starting to sound like a big nope. Not sure why if you delete the ECG readings in Connect and then delete the app, they don't free you up to toggle it back off but oh well.

I was about to sell my AW Ultra - but now wearing it. Probably not the effect Garmin was after.

  • Yeah I saw that comment from the RunGap page too. I have the latest app, also tried it from a second device (brand new install) and it won’t pull in anything from Garmin connect. My last run Imported from Garmin on Monday, and nothing since. I did submit a ticket to rungap to see if they know, but I’m pretty certain this was another change on the Garmin side that caused something to break.

Rofl and how exactly does the MFA prevents you using the watch? Well, use whatever suits you the best. However, I do not understand why you don't simply create a new GC account without the MFA, if it cannot be disabled on the current one.
