Personal Records reset but also retained (feature request)

Hi.

I  have a Garmin Forerunner 220.

As I grow older, my times naturally slow. It becomes less and less likely that I will set another PR.  In addition, I might have periods where I am recovering from a long illness. It would be nice to be able to periodically reset personal records in my Forerunner. It is encouraging when I finish a run, and the Forerunner shows I have (a) new record(s).

I know I can do this by resetting records in the 220. But, when the 220 gets synchronized with my data in Garmin Connect Web, my old records are loaded back into the 220. I could reset the 220 records and the Connect records. But, I'd like to retain the records in Connect Web.

I propose Garmin Connect have a feature "Create Personal Records Group". This would create a set of personal records that have not yet been set. When the Forerunner is synchronized, it "sees" only the current (most recent) Personal Records Group.

An alternative is to add a date field to the Garmin Connect Web app, and allow users to enter a date. When the web data and Forerunner are synchronized, the Forerunner "sees" only the fastest mile, 5K, 10K, half, marathon times and longest run distance that occurred after that date.

I believe such a feature will add to the enjoyment aging runners receive from their runners' watches.

  • I would just add records for each activity and last month and year. This could be nicely summarized for each period.

Then we could check what times we achieved during an activity on known distances, and the same for month and year.

Good if a watch could display it, but would be enough to see it on the Connect Web.

  • I would think it should be easy. (But maybe not.)  if Garmin isn't interested in creating such a feature, I guess I'll copy my personal records to a spreadsheet, and then delete them from Garmin Connect Web and my watch.

  • Display on the Web should be easy as all data is there, probably more tricky to change on watches.

But for a watch it may be possible to make an app, on the store there is one DataField for current activity's records in real time. Other apps save steps during a month. So probably it should be possible to save records, though I don't see exact app like that now.

True, personal note/spreadsheet makes it. You can then also distinguish records from races and trainings.

  • One way to partially implement this suggestion is to have a check box or something that will download or block downloading (depending on the state) of personal records to the watch.
