Export a "saved course" from Edge 1030+ to cellphone. Bug?

Hi,

I created some courses on my Garmin Edge 1030+. Also I have some courses imported from other IQ apps.

After sync with my Android app "Garmin Connect", these courses are not visible under "My courses".

If I go to the Garmin Connect Web page, still I can't see any course.

However, I am still able to see the courses if I connect the Edge 1030+ with a cable to my Mac, and I open BaseCamp.

In this case, after I edit a couple of tracks, I can later see them under "my courses" in Garmin Connect Android App

Please help. I already updated both App and Edge to the latest sw version.

  • Check out the Device Sync Audit in GC Mobile Menu » Settings after the unsuccessfull sync, and watch for any errors or warnings. Or just sync with the USB cable to Garmin Express.

  • Hi, thank you.

I checked the log and this is what I see:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1gf80zfh6z53lva/2021-02-17%2007.48.10.png?dl=0

There is no error I believe, it just says there is nothing to upload.
To be sure, I deleted all courses, I created two new courses, one from an activity and one from "navigation",
and I repeated the sync process once again, but still I can't see any course neither in my Cellphone app nor in the web app.

Unfortunately Garmin express is not available for Android and I travel with my cellphone only..
Thank you very much for your help

  • Is this a function that should work? I understand that it would be nice but that doesn't mean that Garmin implemented it. I have the Edge 1030 and courses created on the device are not synced to Garmin Connect. Is it a new function on 1030+?

  • This function does not exist - also not on the Edge 1030+.
A course which was created on the Edge (i.e. out of an activity) or was imported via gpx-NewFiles is not synced to Garmin Connect.

  • Good. That is what I thought. To get those courses to Connect you will have to fetch them as files and add them to Connect.

If the user doesn't have a computer available it might be possible to use an USB-OTG adapter to fetch the files to phone or tablet. I did a quick test and connected my 1030 to my Android phone via USB-OTG and I could browse the file system on 1030 with a file explorer app on the phone.

  • Hi and

    thank you for your feedback.

I understand this functionality does not exist towards the Android Connect app, but it should exist in the web app. See:

    https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-web/221004/how-to-export-a-course-from-edge-1030-to-openrunner-gpx-or-xml

The problem is that I can't see my courses even in the web app.
For sure that is a functionality that I used at least once, but now I can't see any course.

    Thank you very much

  • That link doesn't mention that you can sync them to Garmin Connect Web. It is just a question for where the files are located so he can manually handle them as files.

trux says in that link that you find the courses in the folder /GARMIN/Courses/ on the device, but they are in FIT format. It might work to just convert them to GPX or TCX and then import them in Garmin Connect Web, but I haven't tested that.

  • If you have no computer with you, you could also try whether you can access or sync the device based courses with the help of the Garmin Explore app.

...and @trux says, it is possible to export courses from WEB-Connect in GPX format. But - of course - this works only, if the course is stored in Garmin Connect.

    What you can do:
Plug in your device to your PC/Mac, open Basecamp. What you already did, because you told us, you can see the courses now.

Highlight the desired course in Basecamp. Go to Main Menu "File" - "Export" - "Export Selection".
Export as GPX to your PC/Mac.

Now open WEB-Garmin Connect. Goto "Trainings" - "Courses" and click "Import" (right bottom on the table with your own courses).
Import the GPX file from your PC/Mac, give the course a name and you're in heaven!

  • Thank you .

My goal is to be independent from my laptop, as I travel with my cellphone only. I can access the web app from my cellphone.

Such connect.garmin.com app is basically a mirror of my Edge, and there I see activities, workouts, and courses.

But activities are synced, and courses are not. I can't understand why. If it's a format problem, why I can see my activities and not my courses? Aren't they both in fit format?

Thank you again and sorry for continuing this 3d...
