how do I get my activity back if I delete it?

  • Hi all,

I have a Garmin Vivo Active 4 and today I took part on a trail run event and won 2nd place at category. At finish I pressed the button to stop my activity and then took some photos. When I looked at my watch it was all wet from my sweat and just seen pop-up saying "Activity Discarded"...probably a drop touched the "delete" option. I usually don't save the activities immediately after stopping them because I want to see the summary of the run and then save it. Obviously big mistake.

Now I desperately want to find a way to recover the deleted activity "fit" file, but the problem is my Garmin watch mounts as MTP device (not having a drive letter, is shown as "vivoactive 4" on my windows machine), not as a mass storage device and none of the recovery tools I've tried is able to see an MTP device, and I've tried a lot of them.

These being said, does anyone know any method to recover my activity, or any way to mount my watch as mass storage? Or, maybe, a recovery tool that is able to recover from an MTP device?

  • Hi,

I had accidentally removed my activity from my bike computer during T2 of a 70.3 triathlon, and I'm missing all of my power data from the race. Would it be possible to understand what's going on in there? I powered the device off almost immediately after bike check-out and attempted to recover the activity as soon as I got home. I'm expecting an activity time of ~2.5 hours and a total distance of 56 miles.

  • Thanks a ton! Would I have any luck trying to recover the last 40 or so minutes if I bought a license to the tool? Don't have a PC readily available but I'd like to see that part of the ride (given that watts dropped a ton at the end).

    license to the tool
    • I hope you meant the recovery tool and not FFRT Wink
    • and I guess you did mean FFRT Shrug
    • it is the file system recovery tool that provides the data
      • good data in, good data out, ....
    Would I have any luck
    • nope
    • becasue Garmin(or something else) decided to record a second fit file while recording the normal activity fit file
      • lowering chances for a full recovery drastic Shrug
  • Here's a recovered fit file the Garmin site gives an error for

    4774.garmin.zip

thank you, and now ? Shrug

a few more words to build a few sentences containing the how, when, why, what did I learn, where did it happen, which device was used

  • Can you please fix this file so it uploads? I don't know how it got deleted. I finished my workout, next time I looked at my watch the exercise was gone and it never uploaded. Device is a Venu SQ. I was able to recover this file using Recuva but it won't upload to Garmin.

    hi,

thank you for the backgorund info

missing the when, because there is data from multiple dates in the provided fit file

    • sorting this out with a known date would be helpful Wink
    • at first glance there is some data from May 27

perhaps the venu is a touch screen device ? when  possible turn touch off for sports Thumbsup

  • Oh I didn't realize there would be different dates in there. This was from yesterday, 6/19.

I'll look into turning off the touch screen, but the settings can only be accessed via the touch screen as far as I know
