Zwift Rides No longer count towards Intensity Minutes

I understand that Zwift activities no longer count towards challenge badges but why would an activity imported from Zwift complete with heart rate data not count towards intensity minutes. For example I rode for an hour with an average heart rate of 165 but I didn’t have any intensity minutes for that day. I think that Garmin Connect is no longer any use for tracking fitness over time. Performance Status is pretty much useless if it is  picking and choosing some activities to work out your training load but ignoring other activities.

  • I did NOT reset the watch. I only restarted it. I never had any issues of that nature before (with the same exact watch and smartphone) and I'm a tech-savvy person, so I know what I'm talking about when I say I don't have multiple accounts. Unless it's a behind-the-scenes account Garmin automatically created for me that isn't associated with my email. In which case this issue is even more ridiculous than I thought it is :)))

Also, being a software engineer myself, I'm telling you once again: it is extremely unlikely that in this scenario, some data (e.g. steps) would get synced to one account and some other (HR in this case) - to another, when it's coming from the same watch to the same Connect App on the same phone within the same atomic sync operation.

I guess it doesn't make sense to argue here. We obviously have different opinions on what the cause of the issue was. It changes nothing after all (except maybe giving other people with the same issue a clue on what else they could try to get rid of the issue, especially since restarting watch is much easier than logging out of all the accounts everywhere, resetting gadgets, reinstalling apps, logging back in, etc).

  • So you are technically savvy person, but still did not try to fix the problem and letting it a month long without recording the HR, still expecting it will continue to work normally anyway? Well, why not, but then do not be surprised by the result, at least.

As I said, it was showing the live HR data and the "past 4 hours" on the watch itself. It also looked like it was syncing data to the Garmin's mobile Connect app properly b/c it was showing data for the current day. BUT, somehow it wasn't saving that data in the end of the day (or something like that) and I wasn't paying attention to the HR data for the previous days (i.e. I wasn't browsing the HR data history), so I simply missed that the data for the past days was missing. The "intensity minutes" metric that is based on that HR data (as it's a weekly progress metric) stopped working properly at some point, so that's how I eventually got to realize that it was the HR data sync issue that caused it. I'd say that's not something anyone would notice/realize right away.

  • Not allowing activities recorded with non garmin device to count in badge looks "monopolistic" position from Garmin.

I don't feel good with this and are not going to Connect from a while now. Only looking at this in Strava

Wrong thread. This one is about Intensity Minutes. For badges, post rather to [https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-web/143925/garmin-connect-badges-not-being-awarded]

  • Until 5 April 2021, Zwift rides counted towards my intensity minutes as did timed walks. Most weeks I would clock up about 1100 minutes. Since then niether count. Now I am halfway through the week and still at 41 minutes.I have not changed anything so it seems they've changed the logic. I always wear my watch during the ride but use the smart trainer to upload to Zwift. Both rides and times walks show on Garmin as activities but no longer contribete to intensity minutes.

Your issue is unrelated to Zwift. You do not get any IMs becuase you have two accounts associated with the watch (as you can see below). Use the hint #3 in the Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing to fix it.

  • It is not true, I wear my venu, Garmin HRM chest belt and using staging power meter during my activity, an still all diagnostics are visible, km counted well for badges and progress, but still no activity minutes recorded during Zwift ride (actually any virtual activities are not counted at all!).

  • Zwift rides have never ever counted for intensity minutes since intensity minutes are calculated on the device. The only things that calculates intensity minutes are Garmin watches (not all, but Venu does) and the new HRM-Pro. Edge devices do not have that function and non of the old HRM chest belts.

So, the reason to why you don't get any intensity minutes is not related to Zwift. It might be your watch, the settings for intensity minutes or your account.

  • You are right, I just compare HR data from my watch and HR chest and there is a difference. Under activity details I can see correct data field with HR values collected from chest belt, but under intensity minutes is HR data from watch, with incredibly low values. I've checked other activities and sometimes is ok, sometimes not. Should I open the support case in Garmin or just claim warranty?
