We have limited popularity data for this part of the map

Trying to map a route over roads I’ve ridden loads and mapped on my garmin 830 before but keep getting this error message. Is there an issue with garmin in the U.K. today?

  • Hi, I haven't been able to create train paths in the Garmin Connect app for 4-5 days. There is a notice that says "Limited Available Data" "Sorry, popularity data for this area of the map is limited. You may not be able to use this feature in this area." This used to not happen and I could create my train paths without problems. What can it be because of? Thank you.

  • I am no longer able to plan road cycling routes on the iPhone app as whenever I try to plot a custom route it tells me “limited data available. Sorry, we have limited popularity data for this area of the map. You may not be able to use this feature in this area” and won’t let me add the next point. 

    It looks like a problem that would be solved by selecting “follow roads” or “freehand” rather than “popularity route” but there is no longer any option to change this in the app. 

    I know that this can still be done on the garmin connect website  and route planning is easy there but planning routes from my phone is often more convenient. I’ve tried reinstalling the app but nothing changed. 

    any ideas how to avoid using popularity routes as the default on the app?

  • This morning I noted that it's impossible to create a new course, while it was last Sunday for sure.

    Does anybody have same issue? Even using "custom mode" most of the time the next point addition fails complaining there are no possible route, even if there's a plain road in between. Trying more and more, after a while GC is able to find the path, but the problem repeats for every additional point, so quite boring creating a complete path.

    Is it a bug in Connect app?

  • I’ve had exactly the same problem.Created courses no problem last week but now I get the same error message even though when Icheck the popularity map in my area it is heavily populated. Hoping it is just a glitch on the web site that will cure itself soon

  • It was only solved with a job logged with garmin 

  • Same problem in Cheshire . Worked fine last weekend  (21 Nov 20 ) with same settings and location but haven’t had any joy since Friday of last week (27 Nov 20 ) which fits in with timescales mentioned when others had the problem. Have asked Garmin to look in to as it seems to be a problem with their web site base on the comments below 

  • Thanks for the advice - have requested a job be logged although it looks like there are a few others who have the same problem which manifested itself some time last week

  • There would appear to have been an app update of Garmin Connect on 23 November......I am wondering whether this has anything to do with it.

    Lets hope Garmin sort it out ASAP as it is very frustrating.
