New overlay on tracks

This is new in the past couple of hours, for me at least - coloured tracks to show power, heart rate, elevation or speed. What do you think? Useful?

  • Some users have been asking for this, so I guess there is some use.

  • It is useful, but depends on implementation. Current Garmin's implementation more useless then useful due to the following reasons:

    1. By default it colorized and this behavior can't be changed somewhere in the preferences.

    2. Legend is not visible on full screen map.

    3. Relative legend "Less - More". For Speed/Altitude it should be with absolute values from mIn to max. For Power/Heart rate, probably, it should be a zone, or at least absolute values too.

    4. No tooltip on hovering track on the map. It will be useful to see metrics on hovering.

May be we will see such and others enhancements later.

  • Since the update I don't see any track at all on the map for any activity which was created on my 530. Older activities created on my old 520 have a multicoloured track, but it refers to speed not power. It was fine as it was

  • I see the exact same behaviour. All my rides are recorded with Edge 1030. The ones with power logged doesn't show any track. When just showing the speed (when I got no power meter) the track is displayed.

It still works to enable the lap markers and play the ride and watch the marker go along the invisible track.

  • Some styles are bugged: None (red line) disappears when you zoom. Changing to other style helps. But don't know if also for rides with power.

  • LOVE THIS.  Way to go Garmin.  This makes it really fun to look at the map.

  • For me also, power overlay in cycling shows nothing (I do have power meter and proper measurements). Changing different maps or styles don't help. Too bad it is the default overlay, have to change it to something else every time before seeing anything. Would be nice if it would remember your last settings.

Otherwise I like the overlay feature, nice addition :)

  • The overlay feature is so full of bugs it is typical Garmin untested beta code. Currently, my new rides have no Power Overlay and the entire route display disappears despite the fit file containing all of the Power data from my Quarq. Speed, however, works just fine. I also have the same issue where the route will disappear occasionally when zooming in (when it shows up). My older rides show the Power Overlay just fine. Behavior is the same on the mobile app.

  • FYI, I just spoke with Garmin and they are aware of the bug and are working on it apparently.

  • Reports also  has bugs. It does not memorized default settings when changing activities
