I just got back from a 9mile walk and went to click save on my watch Forerunner 235 and it skipped to discard and deleted my activity. is there a way to get this back? I'm really gutted

just maybe and with a lot of luck
stop all activity on your watch by turning it off until you start a file recovery scan
with the use of a file recovery…
On my laptop I used Recuva to recovery the deleted file from my Garmin forerunner 235 watch and saved to my desktop.

you did a good job recovering the fit file, almost 
removed some non activity data and ran it through Fit File Tools's section remover
the last part of your fit file is missing !

when I tried with fit fil tools it only saved a mile.
correct, it stopped at the part with non activity data
