Bug: I can't create any segments from an activity (Page not found)

I successfully see the "Create segment"-button below each of my activities, but when I click on it, I don't get redirected to the segment editor but to an error page stating that the page was not found.

This is particularly annoying because I wasn't able to find any information about this bug (I've searched everywhere), as if it was brand new. As I am a new user (bought an Edge a few days ago) I don't know how long the bug has been around.

Can you tell me if you also get this bug? And how long it has been there?

  • Works fine on my side. What browser do you use? Try an alternative one, and/or turn off any plugins, and allow the use of cookies for garmin.com

  • I've been using Firefox but even with turned off add-ons it doesn't resolve the problem. I've also tried on a freshly re-installed Google Chrome.

Do you think that some properties of my recorded activity might be the cause ?

  • Please share an activity to Everyone (see the padlock symbol) and share the link here (see the share symbol, near the padlock), I can try to look if I see something suspicious. Was the activity recorded by your device, or is it imported one? What device do you use?

  • Thanks for having a look! I was using an Edge 130 to record the activity. Here is the link: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4855095466

I will record a new activity this evening and see if the problem persists for other activities ^^

  • Looks all right. Perhaps you do not have GC segments enabled, rather just Strava segments. I think this option is accessible through the phone app only (at least I do not remember where it could be on the Web app), so on GC Mobile, go to Training » Segments, tap the triple dot symbol at the top right, and make sure Garmin Segments are enabled.

  • I already activated the Garmin segments from the phone, although I can't remember if they were already activated by the time of the activity. I have Strava connected but I don't use the segments as I would prefer to use the ones from Garmin, if only they could work properly..

I'll wait and see, unless you've got another idea ^^ Thanks a lot!

  • Try accessing this direct link to the creation of the segment from the activity you posted (replace the last number in the address with the numeric ID of another activity, if needed):

    connect.garmin.com/modern/segment/createFromActivity/4855095466

  • No, this was precisely the page on which I can read "Page not found"

I've just opened the developers' tools in the browser and I see that there is a "500 Internal Server Error" on following file : connect.garmin.com/modern/proxy/course-service/segment/activity/4855095466 however I don't know what causes it.

But it is clearly a bug!

I ask myself if it has to do with the fact that I deleted the 'course' that I was following during the ride, which definitely shouldn't have any impact on the activity. Because during the ride, I finally decided not to follow the planned route and go off-track instead. And here, looking at the URL, it seems that the 'course-service' was affected.

How can I fill a bug report? This doesn't seem clear to me

Send an email to the support

You could try exporting the activity in the TCX format, changing the date in it, importing it as a new activity, and then trying to create the segment from the new activity. If it does not work, export it in the Original format, and post the zipped FIT file here, I can try creating the segment from it in my account.

  • I can't find a form that doesn't request a serial number, and Garmin Connect Web doesn't have a serial number anyway.

In any case, to anyone who would read this in the future: I tried again with a different ride, and apparently it works now so my doubts seem verified: the bug was caused by the fact that I deleted the 'course' that I was following during the activity. If I don't delete the 'course', the segment creation tool works flawlessly. The bug isn't solved, but at least I know how to avoid it.

    Thanks for your help!
