Distance wrong on my runs please help!

Why is distance not calculating correctly on my vivoactive compared to forerunner. Only seems to be having issues when running not on other activities . Running is my main sport . So frustrated,  Ive tried changing to GPS galieo  and still no better . Can anyone help ?

  • Surely running beside someone cant cast a shadow on a watch?

GPS signal has a very short wavelegth, and is therefore easily shielded by obstacles. That's why it does not work indoors, and has troubles near tall buildings or trees. Although not that serious, a person in a direct proximity could influence the quality of the signal, though I do not think it should create any signiificant problem. Still, you can try running so, that the hand with the watch is on the outer side, and not between you two.

I've found the about section  under settings but there is no EPO status section

Did you scroll though all the About screens till the end? On my Garmin Instinct, the EPO status is on the last one (around 7th About screen). Anyway, it does not matter, just connect the watch with the USB cable to the computer, and click the update check in Garmin Express. The EPO file will be updated.

I've had a range of garmins throughout the years and really disappointed with this.

In that case replace it with another model. It looks like you purchased it recently, so it should not be any problem.

  • How do I manage running on the outside in a race full of thousands of people?

Theres definitely no EPO status in the about section , I'll do what you said on PC.

How do I go a out replacing with a different model? Will Garmin take this back ?

Tks for your help,  I'm just really frustrated as Garmins have never ever given me trouble like this before

When you run with your husband, so that you see whether it makes any difference.

If you bought it directly from Garmin, then certainly yes. If not, then ask the retailer. I do not know the laws in Ireland, but AFAIK everywhere in Europe there is certain period required by the law, when you can change goods if you are not happy with. And many retailers offer voluntarily even better conditions than required by the law.

  • I also bought a Forerunner 45 at first, but when I tested it, I quickly found it was far too limited, so after a week I went back to the retailer, and they exchanged it for my recent Instinct with no question asked, and no fees involved.

  • Thanks,  however  I've ran the same route on my own though and it still only recorded the lesser distance ....but I'll try it anyways.

Yes I bought from Garmin directly less than a year ago . I'll possibly go for the forerunner 645 music . My forerunner 235 was always spot on even in races

I do appreciate your help with this thanks

  • Wow ! Surely they charged you the difference between the cost of the two watches?

  • Surely they charged you the difference between the cost of the two watches?

Yes, that's why they were happy to change it Smiley

  • ... but a year ago, that does not sound too likely that they would take it back. I though the watch was just a few days old. You can try, but more likely you'll have to sell it on eBay (or elsewhere), and buy a new one.

  • Ok tks , I'm awaiting a response following my phone call to them yesterday

  • No I continued to use the 235 for running up until when I decided to sell it as didnt see point in having the two watches.....I might be regretting that decision now,  either way the vivo active is still under warranty
