Vivoactive 4 not syncing heart rate and steps (activities do sync)

My heart rate and steps have stopped syncing and don't show up in the  connect mobile or web app. Activities still sync but also remain on the watch's current day tab, so in my daily activities I can see the activities for the past few weeks. This sounds reminiscent of what was reported here, but no solution was provided. I have tried rebooting and charging the watch several times. What can I do to fix this, do I have to reset the watch? Will that remove the activities on the watch that have not synced yet?

  • Did you try syncing over the cable with Garmin Express on the computer?

I am on Linux so unfortunately I can't run Garmin Express natively. I might try to set it up via wine to get this working or borrow a friends computer, thanks for the tip.

I just installed garmin express and synced with my watch. Still the same result, activities sync but health data does not.

  • Hm, strange. Perhaps the respective fit files are damaged. Try importing them to GC manually. You will find them on the watch in the folders //GARMIN/Sleep, Monitor, Summary. You can also check the FIT files with the Section Remover of FIT File Tools (without removing anything) - if they are corrupted, it will tell you. You could also try perfoming a master reset of the watch (look up the key combination in the user manual of the model you own - it varies from model to model), but be aware that with such operation you'll lose all data and settings. Settings are stored in the folder //GARMIN/Setting, you can save them before the reset, and restore later. Similarly with most of the data, but it assumes the files are not corrupted.

Garmin support noticed that "Activity tracking" was turned off and after turning "Activity tracking" back on, the watch started syncing properly. This was confusing because "Activities" were still synced when this was off, but daily "Health stats" were not, and because the watch was still recording my heart rate, just not syncing it. I suggested they rename it "Health stats tracking".

Thanks for the help and sorry for wasting your time.

  • Thank you for the feedaback! Indeed confusing, but am glad I learned something new again.

Interesting. Same problem but that hasn't solved it for me

Interesting. I had the same problem as you but that solution did not work for me. I tried to turning off activity tracking and back on again just to be sure but no connection. Runs and walks are still recorded accurately but no pulse rate no steps no sleep no stress ratings....

  • I have a VivoActive 3 Music. I had the same problem and tried all the solutions here with no success. Even though my phone is paired with my device it showed on the App that it was not connected. With Bluetooth turned on on my phone, I then went to "Settings/Connectivity/Phone" (it showed  a green "Status: Connected" )  and, even though it said my phone was paired, I hit "Pair Phone" . I then heard my phone App ding a couple of times as it uploaded both health stats and recent activity files.  Hope this helps someone!   PS I also noted that sometimes my device would tell me that it couldn't upload/sync/connect to wifi  because the battery charge was too low - but this happened when battery charge was at 4% or 20% or 48% so I don't think that was an issue??
