why are bike miles included in step miles

Why do the miles for daily steps include the miles I biked? This is completely screwing up my imports to other fitness challenges.

  • I just want a number that reports only step distance to export to an external challenge tracker

I checked and if you need that for export maybe you can use JSON file. Activities have "steps" value there, so you can read distance and steps for your activities.

You can download it by this link (the limit parameter is how many activities to download)

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/proxy/activitylist-service/activities/search/activities?limit=20&start=0

I have been reading what you are putting here but none of it is a solution. I do not want the distance of my activities. I want my daily steps and the distance shown in the phone app to export instead of the step distance shown on the computer. I want to know why those two numbers do not match and I want Garmin to provide a correction.

  • That post about not reading was to user Digeridoo, not for you. There is "in reply to X" above each post.

For you I posted only workarounds, not solutions. As another workaround you could try copying FIT file (there is small icon on the daily summary) and use some converter to read it. But I don't know where you want to export that data, nor if you do it by hand or automatically, so I don't know if that will work.

If you want solution, you can write an e-mail to garmin to product.support@, but I wouldn't expect they will fix it soon. I tried reporting some similar small bugs, and they weren't interested. But try it.

I'm having the same problem. Can't find a solution.
