Why do the miles for daily steps include the miles I biked? This is completely screwing up my imports to other fitness challenges.

Distance is showed on Steps card? Then distance must be only for steps...
Total distance should be shown as an additional and separate column on this card.
I have been reading what you are putting here but none of it is a solution. I do not want the distance of my activities. I want my daily steps and the distance shown in the phone app to export instead…
You're right, the big label "steps" is misleading. It's only for that big number below. On the right, small number, It's total distance for a day as tmk2 wrote.
But on the reports it's clearly separated: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/report/17/all/last_seven_days
the big label "steps" is misleading
Why it is misleading? On this card any number is only for steps, but only distance is total, which is wrong.
Except total distance does not show steps, I just want a number that reports only step distance to export to an external challenge tracker
Well, true, it shows only distance, but separated for run or cycling. Steps you can read from daily steps. So, you can take distance which you run and match it to steps.
Or you can list activities here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activities?activityType=running with added average step column (small icon on the right to choose columns). Then you can divide a distance by average step, and get steps count for an activity.
I see, for you it is normal to mix data and that is why it is better to just rename the card instead of obvious fix - change the distance. Ok, I can't continue here, I don't have an argument for such position. Let's mix all data and in all cards! At least it will be funny!
